yea, UVA is rated as the "most satisfactory school" for first, second year and third year students, yale won the seniors' love.

Illinois is getting wildly ignored. I'd say it's up there with the likes of Wisconsin, maybe even better. Any list wher you see UT or even UCSD, you should have U of I

hey y r u lowering UT and UCSD's quality?

U Illinois at Urbana-Champlain is indeed kickass. But so are UT and UCSD.

girlfriendmb, please read this thread...

That said, I think that in no particular order...except for UCLA first because it's my alma mater...

UCLA, Berkeley, Michigan, UCSD, UW, UI, UVA, UNC, UT

For once, I think USNWR is spot on when it comes to its ranking of public schools.

Here's their full list for anyone wondering:

y r u lowering UT's quality...we aren't hicks

And for the record I think that UT is an incredible school.

First off, I am a Jew. How is that an insult? Being Jewish is a bad thing? I thought that BS ended in the the 1960s...but here you are.

I didn't argue that UCLA was "above" UT, but since I graduated from UCLA, I listed it first. I offered no methodology to my list, and merely said that there was "no particular order other than UCLA first" for fairly obvious reasons.

I'm still amazed that she "insulted" me by calling me Jewish. Oh, and "ghey." I guess being "gay" spelled incorrectly is a bad thing. Lame.

I hate trolls.

Word to the fellow Shia fan!

Why do people rank UVA so low?? It is definately top 3 in public school material. Everyone there is satisfied and has one of the best overall college experiences. great academics, good sports ,great college town, more than satisified students , and fittest campus in the country.

its also sumthin like 7th oldest college so it dates back to when ivys were formed but it was too far south(and public) to be in ivy league.

Confidential, I don't know about the people on this site, but I do know that published rankings (and "reputation" which is used by US News) are often influenced by research and the publications that come out of collegiate institutions. At UVa, though research is important, teaching is paramount. In this regard, UVa (and William & Mary for that matter) have more in common w/ LAC's when it comes to their commitment to excellent teaching and the engagement of their students. I've read endless complaints about many research universities where students feel like 2nd class citizens after their professors' research projects.

Because of UVa's commitment to its students, UVa grads give the school high marks as ThomYorke mentions. Furthermore, UVa has the highest graduation rate of all public schools (91%; also the graduation rate of UVa's African American students [88%] is 20 points higher than the next public school's; the African American national average is somewhere in the 30's or 40's). Plus, UVa's alums are among the most generous among public school grads w/ a 29% giving rate, thus allowing UVa to go after a $3 billion capital campaign. If those aren't signs of a great school, then I don't know what are.

don't 4get tcnj

I think University of FL is pretty good...

Berkeley, Michigan, UVA, UCLA, UNC, W&M...

umm definately Penn State- very highly ranked business and engineering school, the best meteorology program in the country, and possibly has more alumni than any other college. I don't get why people on this board rarely mention the school.

b/c upenn owns pennstate i guess....

um this is about the best public schools and your post makes absolutely no sense. The majority of the country thinks upenn and penn state are the same school anyway.

"umm definately Penn State- very highly ranked business and engineering school, the best meteorology program in the country, and possibly has more alumni than any other college. I don't get why people on this board rarely mention the school."

cuz US news ranks it so low and this board is obsessed with US News

cuz it's outshadowed by the big collection of better schools in the east coast

cuz west coast people on this board don't think highly of it (hey, we're west coast-centric too)

speaking of which... i dont get how people (of the general public) think penn state is just as good as any other state school like UCLA. clearly there's a difference right? or am i just being california-centric? haha penn state alums would probably agree with the first statement
