best public state schools?

looking for a mix to apply to and just wanted to get a sampling about wut y’all think are the best state schools. here’s my top 5

UPENN (i’mm assuming this is a public u ?)

Call-Berkeley

Michigan

Illinois

Texas (i’m from dallas, so a little biased, can y’all tell me how it is viewed nationally?)

I don't believe UPenn is a public school From what I know, it's a private, Ive League University.

I would have to include UW Madison on the list, because I'm completely biased. XD

Upenn is definitely not a public school, one of the private Ivy Leagues. Otherwise, even though I hate to say this, maybe look through the USN rankings.... pretty fair for a rough estimate of where schools are, though yours looks pretty good

UCLA is better statwise than Illinois and Texas, maybe Michigan.

I'd say:
1) UVA, Berkley, Michigan: all three are amazing schools, the first two are considered the "public ivies", and Michigan is right behind them. The major differences are within the individual departments and ofcourse location and campus setting
2) Texas, Illinois, UCLA : again, on the rise, and these three schools have a wide variety of excellent programs, they just haven't been as good as long as the above schools
3) Florida, other UCs, Maryland, UMass, UConn

No order:

UVA
Cal
UCSD
UCSB
UCLA
Mich
Wisc
UF
UT
UIUC
UMD
UNC
W&M
GaTech
University of Washington

Top 15 publics.

UT as in Austin?

Yes of course.

Virginia or UCBerkeley

Michigan
rest: Illinois, Texas, UCLA, U. of Washington, Wisconsin are all good but don't know the order

Berkeley
UVA
Michigan
UCLA
UNC
William and Mary
Wisconsin
Texas

oh yeah, i forgot about UNC...

I thought William and Mary was private, though.

Nope, W&M is public.

Top: UVA, W&M, Berkeley, Mich, UCLA, UNC, Wis
Second: UTexas, UFlorida, Penn State, UMD, maybe Illinois, UCSD
Third: UDEL, UConn, UWashington, U South Carolina. GATach, VATech.. lots more.

^ FINALLY someone got it right!!!

Top Tier: UVA, Michigan, UNC, UCLA, UCB
2nd: Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas
3rd: Penn State, Maryland, UConn, Georgia, Ohio State, Washington, and some other UC's
4th: Delaware, South Carolina, Iowa, UMass, SUNY Binghamton

I like toneranger's rankings, but move GATech and UWashington to tier 2.

UC Berkeley, UCLA, UMICh, UVA, UNC-CH, hope I'm not missing anymore!

As you are from Dallas, you are going to pay OOS tuition rates at all but UT and the cost differential from elite privates for most of the named state universities is relatively low. Is there something you are looking for in a state school or are you just interested in some opinions on various state schools?

Penn is as much of a public school as NYU.

You have UVa, Berkeley, Michigan, UNC
then everything else.

Funny how rankings-oriented these posts seem...
