Best route from CT to Midd in VT

Hi im recently planning my trip from CT to VT,specifically middlebury town. Ive checked greyhound and amtrak here in New London, but im still not sure if they provide the "best" route. im not local here,so im posting here to see if any local or just anyone can tell me the best route from CT to midd in VT. im thinking about taking greyhound or amtrak (or any other public transportation you know) since there is no other way that i can rent a car or what....
hope anyone who has similar experience can tell me about it and thank you for any input:)!

I’m presuming you know how to use Google Maps or MapQuest and that your concerns are related to all the road damage as a result of Hurricane Irene. If that’s the case, then here’s a link that you may find particularly helpful.

thank you urbanslaughter. I did check google maps and found the best route was to take greyhound to Burlington, but its still like a hour or so to get from burlington to midd. so im posting to see if there is a greyhound station or something like that that can take me directly from CT to Midd. Thank you again for this link!

Another option might be megabus. You can leave from either New Haven or Hartford, take megabus to Boston and then transfer to a bus from Boston to Burlington. Might be a bit inconvenient, but it’s much much cheaper than greyhound or amtrak. Plus, the buses don’t stop nearly as much, so the trip ends up being shorter anyway (though with the transfer I’m not sure). To get from Burlington to Midd, there are commuter buses, but these don’t always leave at the most convenient times. You can also schedule a ride with Midd Transit (I assume this still exists), but it’ll cost a bit. Taxi services will also take you between the two. Of course, best case scenario is that you know someone at Midd who has a car (or can get one) and is willing to pick you up.

Hi panthergrad09!Thank you for your information! I’m so glad that one of my classmates lives in VT and is going back during the break, so she can give me a ride to VT(though she lives in Woodbury Vermont and probably cant give me a ride back to CT). I def will check for information about the commuter buses and midd transit from burlington to midd! Thank you again for these information:)!

Also they dont provide overnight accommodations for visitors?

Have your Woodbury friend drop you off in Montpelier and you can catch a bus to Burlington, and, from there, there must be a bus to Middlebury.

Here is the bus schedule. It’s kind of hard to read. Make sure you understand that the top one if for Monday through Friday and the bottom one is Sat. I don’t think they run on Sundays. Burlington to Middlebury is North to South.

On this schedule, check bus 86 from Montpelier to Burlington - only goes Monday- Friday though.

hohum-ur message is full so i cant shoot u a personal message. I arrived at midd at 6 and then just slept outside Midd’s admission house( and its so cold…).But I made it to midd on time. I spent half of the day with the tour guide starting from 9 and half of the day sleeping inside the emma williard house(havent slept for 48 hours). I’ve been to the financial service office and I will go to midd’s French and Russian class tomorrow. i had my meals on campus. i have the feeling that Midd is slightly different from Conn. I cant name it,but i will figure it out on tomorrow’s class.I havent actually thought about how i might get back to conn,
Best

Dufour, make sure the admissions office knows what you went through to be there. It will reflect well upon you. When I applied I procrastinated so much that it was actually faster to drive up and drop off my application in person. When I handed it in at the admissions office I told them that I cared too much about my application to trust it to the USPS, so I drove it up myself. They told me they’d put something in my file noting that. Who knows whether it made any difference, but it couldn’t have hurt.

If they know you worked that hard to see the campus and to have an interview it will demonstrate a particular interest in the school. Again, it can’t hurt. Good luck.

thank you urbanslaughter. i completed the visitor record, but i also told them its impossible for me to transfer because of financial aid.Anyway i visited this place and spent the two happiest days since arriving in the States.
