I took the June test for math 2, and got a 710 when I was aiming for 770+. I had worked my way through Dr. Chung’s SAT math 2 book and memorized all of the formulas, and did a few of the practice tests. I also bought the book from Collegeboard with the two practice tests, and on the one I took right before the actual exam, I scored a 790. I’m normally a standardized test natural and I had studied for weeks, so the 710 was pretty disappointing.
I am probably going to retake this test in October; does anyone have advice or book recommendations?
My son used Barron’s and indicated that the tests were more difficult than the actual exam, but helped him prepare for it. He achieved an 800 on the June test. Good luck.
I got an 800 on the June test by studying with both Dr. Chung’s and Barron’s. The actual test wasn’t that similar to either, but I think just doing as many tests as I could and analyzing my mistakes helped me to not make the same mistakes. After a lot of practice tests, I started recognizing different types of problems/strategies, so on the actual test even if the problems weren’t similar I could still use the skills I’d picked up from practice. Good luck!
I used the Barron’s book and I got an 800. I agree, the practice tests from the Barron’s book are a lot harder than the actual test. Good luck
I got 790 using Barron’s. I am going to retake the test to see if I can get the 800 . Will look to get additional books to help me.
Use Barrons, BUT also try to get your hands on an actual past collegeboard test.
That will accurately gauge (and you will find it slightly easier than Barrons) your prepardness for the exam.
@HyperTurbo Where can I find past Collegeboard tests? Do they provide any free ones? If not, is there some kind of practice book that contains them?
@Amduseus
Unfortunately I don’t think there is a specific book for only past SAT II Math exams,
BUT there are two past exams (as well as every other subject test) on the Collegeboard “Official Study Guide for All Subject Tests” book.
It’s your decision if you want to buy the book to just get the two practice tests for Math. I personally photocopied it from a friend who had it. Though I guess a plus is that there are 2 past exams for every other subject test too lol.
@HyperTurbo The book in post 8 has one math level one and one math level 2
This one has two of each test (the same tests from the above book plus one more for each level)

OH whoops, yeah you’re right, the link I posted is the wrong book.
I actually used the Chung book as well! That book does not really teach you many of the subjects on the actual test that well, however. I found that going over the book multiple times (since there are a lot of practice tests) and trying to get a faster completion time helped me significantly. Because the book’s problems are rather difficult, I recommend resting the day before you retake the test in October.
lol I’m taking math2 in august and barrons seems to go pretty fine.Michelle Kim on youtube also has great videos for prep, thought she doesn’t cover all of the curriculum.
I recommend Barrons for all subject tests
Got my score back a couple days ago – 800!! Barron’s > Dr. Chung’s, in my opinion
