Best school for scene kids?

I was just wondering today where all the scene kids go to college, of those who actually do GO to college...hehe...do they go to state schools? Maybe LACs that aren't as well known, or schools that are somewhat known for their dreary and dead students like Reed College in Portland? I don't have the slightest idea or any suggestions, but I was wondering if anyone goes to a school that has a lot of these kind of kids there.

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to urbandictionary.com and search scene. Then look at the submitted pictures.)

i'd say UT Austin

Afterall, we're the live music capital of the world. We've got the ACL festival (huge indie lineups), SXSW (another time for great indie concerts), and Austin itself is generally largely populated with those hipster kids.

Haha that's something I never would have expected down in Texas.

austin the live music capital?? are you joking?

Nope. Not joking.

Live Music Capital of the World
Ever wonder where that nickname came from? It became an official slogan of the City of Austin on August 29, 1991 after research revealed that we had more live music venues per capita than Nashville, New York City, and other music hot spots.

And no, most of it is NOT country music.

Austin, Texas is actually the most liberal place in Texas, it was the only place where they voted to have gay marriage.

Do you even know what ACL is? In September I attended two days of the concert and was able to see: Bloc Party, Oasis, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, The Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists, Rilo Kiley, The Bravery, M83, Aqualung, Wilco, Kaiser Chiefs, and MANY other great bands.

Many big stars love to come down to Austin for the festivals, Bruce Willis actually comes down to play at SXSW.

But hey, I guess you'd rather attend some lame concerts like The Warped Tour.

They play ACL on PBS... and I keep missing it!!

rufio, you should check out the Hipster Guide (book). It's on the sarcastic side, but it listed schools like NYU, Brown, Vassar, RISD, and other places.

OH man I'm definitely making the trip down to ACL next year from Rice. How far is Austin from Houston? I've always wished The Decemberists would make it out to Cincinnati, but we're too conservative for them. Haha.

Thanks Zella I love looking up useless things like this, it's fascinating how certain kinds of people always flock to the same places. I'll def look for that book.

*** is a scene kid

it's about a 2.5 hour drive.

emo is out of style, scene is in

... among those people.

Not bad at all. I have only been to Texas twice, and it struck me as HUGE.

And I just made the connection with your username acronym. Nice.

art school in chicago, my dream school :(

I thought South by Southwest was more of an industry and media sort of deal. it's hell of expensive to attend.

any art school, especially in places like Portland and Seattle, seem scene.

too bad all of the scene kids from my high school are at community college.

Naw Morada, what ends up happening is that a bunch of good bands come down for SXSW and they play at all the local clubs, Emo's, Stubb's, etc.

Definately BYU, scene kids all over that place!!!!!

You may also find a lot of them at Bob Jones U!

oh, i was like, scene, what? we say emo here.

there isn't anyone who's NOT a hipster at pratt in brooklyn. ("scene," if you will.) nyu is the same and eugene lang college of the new school in nyc, even more so. basically new york is awesome. and yeah then vassar, sarah lawrence, reed, bennington. some liberal schools like oberlin, guilford, evergreen state - but you'd find more hippies there than hipsters probably. oh and my roommate tells me that indiana u-bloomington and university of iowa are big hipster zones. they've got that midwestern conor oberst thing going on.

all the scene kids in my school went to community college too.

haha maybe try that :P

btw, when did being a big scene school become a factor in going there, why not just settle for a GOOD school?

I'm sure Ohio State, with it's 40,000+ students, is sure to have a large scene of "scene".

to quote a friend, "you're not scene, you're just ****ing stupid."
