I can believe University of Iowa being scene.

one of the few scenesters I've met so far is from Iowa City and he goes on about his hipster hometown, how they hang out drinking with Saddle Creek dudes or something.

especially amusing because our school is pretty much the opposite of scene.

OMG YESSS SCENE kthxbai

Skidmore?

You would expect Seattle to be really scene, but then again it's really Abercrombie&Fitch+TheNorthFace+REI type.

What does scene mean? And emo?

Slorg hahahahaha

are you sheltered in the middle of alabama or the prepsvilles of maine or something? =P

rufio055, I was looking for the same thing in a school. I'll be attending Emerson in the fall. Not only is the school filled with an interesting mix of artsy/scene/hipster etc kids, the whole Boston vibe is excellent. In my college tours I also found Ithaca, NYU and Hampshire to be cool.

That's very disappointing. Not that the REI type is bad, just the first two.

and makam I wasn't looking for a school like that, I already have my school and didn't see any scene kids there when I visited. I'm just interested in where the scene kids will end up. No offense to anyone on this board, but my friend at Maryland Institute and College of Art says that all of the scene kids suck at art; they are unoriginal and lack creativity, but have a lot of passion for what they do. Hmm.

..S/he could be a PARENT (like me!). I cannot keep up with all the "classifications" of kids there are these days. Back in the day we didn't have all that, but now it seems that everyone has to identify with some kind of group. I ask my D about these groups all the time and what their differences are and, after she rolls her eyes to the heavens, she lovingly and gently tries to explain it to me. I never understood the difference between goth and punk, for instance, just going by appearances. But once she explained things to me, I had a much better understanding. I still don't quite see the difference between emo and scene, but I'm learning!

The only kid I know that's remotely like this goes to UNLV, for what it's worth.

I don't think beeing scene guarantees being original and creative... the lot of them are following a present trend now, some even unconsciously. It's funny because they can all look unique in their thrifted vintage clothes, but you can still pick out that they all look the same.

I know what some of you mean though- I kinda want to be around people who at least listen to the same music and those who'd want to go to shows and stuff.

Nah, don't be too disappointed.

"Preps" here aren't that preppy. They are usually very tame.. Seattle is known for people not caring about what they wear. They are very casual.. hence the af+nf+rei.

And Seattle IS the home of Nirvana/etc/etc/etc/etc. Trust me, there are lots of eccentric people here.

Seattle is awesome. I REALLY wanted to go to Washington for school.

"No offense to anyone on this board, but my friend at Maryland Institute and College of Art says that all of the scene kids suck at art; they are unoriginal and lack creativity, but have a lot of passion for what they do. Hmm."

hahaha. that's why I didn't want to go to an art school.
the public university scene is a lot less pretentious.

So.... what do scene and emo mean?? I'm a high school student and by no means sheltered. I'm just guessing we have different labels in Portland.

SUNY Purchase is supposedly crawling with scene kids.

Slorg that's why I explained it in my original post: go to urbandictionary.com, and search scene and look at pictures, or emo if you would like. You will get an idea of what we are talking about.

scene=I will spit on you if I see you.

I was under the impression that New College in FL is very "scene", which is the reason I never even looked into it.

Several people said Seattle and now that I found out the band Aiden is from there I get what ya mean.

Basically every good band is from Seattle. Except Saddle Creek's own following in Omaha, Nebraska. But besides that, yeah. I was going to guess that most schools up there would be scene as well, but it doesn't sound like it.
