Hey all,
Just wondering what your thoughts are on the best 5-10 engineering school in the nation are. I know some of it is opinion but I just wanted to see what you guys think because I think I want to go into engineering and I want to check out some of the top school. Thanks in advance for your input.

I think there's a certain school in Cambridge, Mass, that ain't too shabby.

by the name of

Mass. Inst. of Tech.

overall

the best

mit, stanford, cal-berkeley, cmu, cal tech, uiuc....etc

oh, and bob jones university

Let's not forget about Georgia Tech, Michigan, Cornell, Purdue, Wisconsin, Princeton, etc.

If you're just talking strictly undergrad, you should also consider Harvey-Mudd, Cooper Union, Swarthmore, and some others

also for undergrad: rose hullman

It varies by Engineering discipline, but the top 4 are generally MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and Caltech. Other top schools include UIUC, Michigan, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, and Princeton.

ucsd is the best school

I would rate Rose-Hulman the best for undergraduate education.

for undergrad check out harvey mudd college

One school that is often overlooked is Olin College of Engineering (Needham, MA). Although at 75 students/class it is not nearly as large as the neighbors at MIT, it has an unparalleled curriculum and environment.

RPI is great also.

what is RPI?

Ratings Percentage Index, a common formula used to ascertain a sport's teams standings. Rochester Polytechnic Institute is a school in NY, solid academics I suppose.

Here are the US News top 15 undergrad Engineering programs:
1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
2. Stanford University
3. University of California Berkeley
4. California Institute of Technology
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
6. Georgia Institute of Technology
7. University of Michigan Ann Arbor
8. Carnegie Mellon University
Purdue University West Lafayette
10. Cornell University
University of Texas Austin
12. Princeton University
13. Johns Hopkins University
Northwestern University
University of Wisconsin Madison

Why do many people keep skipping Northwestern? :( It has more top-10 departments (Civil, Mat Sci, Mech, Industrial) than even Princeton. People keep thinking its only good for journalism/theater/music/film. sigh

the R in RPI does not stand for Rochester.

RPI is number 16 for engineering (so extend that top 15 list by one more, im_blue). RPI is Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an engineering school in upstate NY. Why do you guys not know RPI at all? 16 is pretty good. It's a very similar school to Rose-Hulman. Avg SAT is 1320, and it's in the top 50 overall as a school.

and virginia tech is very good for engineering as well.

wpi is good too
