Best Schools for Southeast Asia/Oceania Studies?

Hi everyone! This is my first post on CC, so don't get too angry if I mess something up. So I am in the midst of college applications, and am wondering about the best schools for International Relations majors, specifically studying the Southeast Asia/Oceania region. The schools I'm applying to are:
1. UW Madison
2. U of M - Twin Cities
3. University of Michigan
4. Carleton College
5. Macalester College
6. Tulane University
7. Northwestern University
8. Bradley University (safety)
I know UCSD is supposed to be really good, but I'm not sure I'll receive enough aid to even consider going there. I am trying to stay in the midwest region, if that's possible. Thanks for all the help (hopefully)!

Michigan and Wisconsin both have strong programs. I would also add Cornell, JHU and Tufts if you don’t mind going further east. Southeast Asia Program | Einaudi Center;

Among LACs I would definitely go for Macalester. I’m not sure about Carleton specially for IR, but it’s a great school overall.

Again, if you’re willling to go a little further Swarthmore, Pomona, Wesleyan and Williams each, in their own way, offers interdisciplinary SEA programs and good internships in the region.

It’s beneficial if you have access to SEA languages like Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese. The larger universities will offer these languages; the smaller ones, maybe not.

As for financing, it really depends on your family’s personal situation, and if you qualify for enough need based aid. What’s your home state?

I would note if you intend to pursue a career in international diplomacy or NGO management, you’re most likely to end up getting a graduate degree. In that event, the choice of your undergraduate school is less significant as long as you do well and secure meaningful internships along the way.

University of Hawaii, where course work under Hawaiian, Indo-Pacific Languages and Literatures, Ethnic Studies, and History, and Political Science may be what you are looking for.

http://manoa.hawaii.edu/admissions/undergrad/academics/majors.html

However, it may be too expensive if you are not a resident of Hawaii or a WUE state (in-state about $26,000, WUE about $31,000, out-of-state about $46,000).
