I've decided that I want to live on south campus after staying on dorms on both north and south campus. (Like people have said in previous threads, south campus is pretty social, while freshman can feel isolated on north--though north dorms are, on the whole, a lot nicer.)

Anway, a few questions:

With Morrison closed, which are the best dorms on south campus? In a previous thread, a UNC student recommended Ehaus South, Craige North, and Hinton James North. Other opinions?

Second, I was wondering about middle campus dorms (Avery, Parker, Teague, Carmichael): do lots of freshmen live there? are they as social as the dorms on south campus? Any specific recommendations.

Finally, do any of y'all living on campus use earplugs or white noise devices? With the exception of the wee, wee hours of the morning, there was a lot of noise where I stayed.

Of course, I've been told that as a freshmen, my housing preferences are purely academic and that I'll be put where I'm put, no matter my choices.

this is true, as freshmen you don't get as much choice as you would as an upper classmen and even as sophmore its a pain (thats probably why there's so many sophmore that end up staying in south campus). A major problem with them closing down morrison is thats that morrison is the largest dorm on campus and most convienient location wise.

now that morrison is gone and if you still want to live on south campus, then morrison south, ehuas south, craige north and HJ north are off course the best dorms in south campus, but they are kinda of small so not as many spots are going to be open so expect it to be tough to get in there. I guess in terms of location then Ehaus is probably one of the better dorms in south campus.

Middle campus is pretty good, its very near to south campus and still kinda close to class (closer than south campus and its right next door to ramshead and Kenan Stadium). Avery and Parker suck, rooms suck. Teague is very nice and i have a lot of freshmen friends who live there. Carmichael is also very nice, but its tough to get in, theres a lot of sophmores in there and carmichael is used for theme housing too so thats why that'd be tought to get in.

I use earplugs sometimes, its best to do your studying in the library. I prefer Davis, but the UL is open 24 hours. Whats whte noise devices?? O and expect it to be a little noisy in south campus late at night (1-3 am) but that could just be morrison. Morrison is very lively.
