Best suny schools for me?

Hi, I have a pretty good list of colleges I’m interested in and going to visit but I’m looking to see which of suny schools I should add to my list as a safety/lowest cost school. I have a 3.8 gpa and a 30 act and a buncha ECs too. my favorite schools so far are tufts, Wesleyan, skidmore, Brandeis, case western, Carnegie Mellon. I am interesting in art/art history (architecture would be a plus) and philosophy and business. I am looking at smaller schools (less than 8,000) and at schools with a liberal, social justice, art driven, lgbt friendly kinda vibe. which of the suny schools do you think would fit me best? I’ve heard some things geneseo and new paltz but haven’t done that much research yet. Thank you!

BUMPPPPPP because we’re practically the same person and no one will answer my question either! :((
I applied to Purchase, New Paltz, Stony Brook, & Bing. I’ve also heard good things about Geneseo but I just didn’t want to apply to any more safety schools. Purchase keeps coming up as the SUNY best known for being artsy. I just want to know more about each one’s program, as I’m sure you do.

From an academic point of view Geneseo or Binghamton. Geneseo has the small school LAC feel but is out in the middle of no where. Binghamton seems to be primarily where the top kids academically who are not going to private colleges are going.
Given your comments about Social Justice and Art Driven it is likely that New Paltz or Purchase are most closely aligned with those interests. Visiting the schools would provide the best sense of that. Get online and look at their activities calendars, read their student newspapers. These are ways to get a better sense of a schools atmosphere. We had visited Geneseo, Binghamton and New Paltz, and our daughter has a very close friend at Purchase.

Ah it’s too late to apply to Geneseo! I know because I missed their deadline by a day >~< (jan 1st) @EmRaeee I think Bing would be a good fit for you! I applied through their art talent program :3 they actually have a whole facility dedicated to the arts! Sbu focuses more on academics but they have art programs too.I attend an art high school and most of my peers applied to Newpaltz, Purchashe and FIT and from I know, those schools have good art programs but kinda meh academics…

If you care more about art than academics you ought to check out FIT. It’s THE art SUNY and highly regarded with artists. They have instructors that are at the top of their fields and one of the instructors, William Low actually came to talk to us and he was absolutely fantastic and all of my teachers adore him. My teacher who graduated from RISD tells me he would’ve chosen FIT over RISD if Will Low had taught there when he was applying to schools. =) If you’re really interested in the arts you should look into them. ^ ~ ^ that’s just my two cents.

Heh now I’m actually going to check them out too > ~ <

Geneseo would have been perfect but the deadline’s passed.
I’d go with New Paltz, then Purchase (but if art is great, academics are only so-so).

I have a relative at Oswego and I’d say her friends and her all fit your description. Every Geneseo person I know is in education, I wouldn’t have thought it as very artsy.
