Ranks of SUNY schools...

hey, i wanted to know like the ranks of all the SUNY schools within NY, in NY...like is there a site which has this information or something??

Not sure but I'd say

1. Binghamton

Geneseo (stronger in humanities)
Stony Brook (stronger in the sciences)

Bing

Geneseo

Albany (everything not science)/Stony Brook (Science)

Buffalo

the rest are all decent for somethings but are overall not great schools, once you get out of those top 4 look elsewhere if you can

Well, of the four University centers, it probably goes bing, stony brook (though best in some sciences), buffalo, then albany. Although, all of these schools have a few specialized programs that are among the best.

It's hard to stick Geneseo in this because it's so different. Based on selectivity, it's been ranked just barely above bing and sb. If you're interested in something Geneseo offers, then I personally think it's the best all around experience.

ahh, ok, thanks for the info!!

is binghamton better than albany and buffalo for business. also, which is better for business, albany or buffalo?

Albany, I hear that they are revamping their business program.

I'd suggest Buffalo first. Then, if you don't need a university, Geneseo. I'd put Binghamton and Albany - I don't know where.

Buffalo has the best undergraduate business program within the SUNY system.

How would you rank the liberal arts colleges, specifically New Paltz.

I would say the lists above are not accurate. The general notion is

Geneseo

Binghamton
...
...

Stonybrook

New Paltz
...
...

Buffalo

I don't think I would put New Paltz above Buffalo and Albany. Geneseo might be a better school than Bing, but Bing definately gets more of the top NY students who chose to stay in state.

Do not confuse "general notion" with reality. I went to SUNY Bing. It does not deserve top ranked anything.

LuckMc:
Here are the rankings according to US News (I don't think they are worth diddly squat though - they are peer reviewed, and the things profs may think of as prestigious may have little or no effect on your undergrad experience):

National Universities:
Binghamton 86
SUNY ESF 98
Stoney Brook 98
Buffalo 120
Albany (third tier - did not make the rankings)

Top schools that grant Masters degrees (no PhDs)
Geneseo 14
New Paltz 44
Fredonia 56
Brockport 79
Oneonta 83

None of these is really a great ranking. Don't forget to look at other out-of-state publics. If you are a good student you may get money from them and not be paying any more than you'd pay for SUNY.

To carify my earlier post about Buffalo -- Personally, I'd recommend it over all the other SUNYs for having the best diversity (it will still be very predominantly kids from LI/NY metro, but offers a bit more diversity than other SUNYs). Also, it has a good, broad range of majors to choose from, good research opportunities, a better locale than Binghamton, less of a party atmosphere than Albany.

where does stony brook come in?

thanks weenie...yea i am gonna look at other out of state publics and privates, but i just wanted to know some ranks of the SUNY schools..i was just curious :)

thanks every1!

Bing is ranked above Stony. With that said, Stony has been climbing in the rankings and Bing has been declining. Over time, IMHO Stony will ovetake Bing.
