Best time to use communal dorm showers?

When are communal showers the least crowded? Do most people shower in the morning or at night?

I have 8 AM classes Monday-Friday as a freshman so I don’t think taking morning showers would work well for me.

What are your experiences?

Thanks

Why not? I can understand if you’re waking up at 630 for 30+ minute experience, and that wouldn’t be pleasant. But for a guy, who takes a short shower and is ready to go, how is getting up at 730, or even 7, a big problem? My showers are least busy between 7-9 am, and 9 onwards at night usually. I am a morning person, so I like getting up at 630 or seven if I have an early class. Showers wake me up. It may be different for you, and people in your dorm may follow different schedules. People vary greatly on when they take their showers. Night people usually claim they don’t want to go to bed dirty; morning people say it refreshes them for the morning, etc.

I haven’t used the showers in the early morning, but they’re pretty empty between 9-10 am since a lot of people have 8ams (that wouldn’t work for you, though). They can get a little crowded at night (9-11pm) but aren’t too bad between 12-2 am (especially on the weekends when a lot of people are out partying). They’re also pretty dead in the middle of the day.

This is all just based on personal experience and it will probably depend on your floor. With ~30+ people on my hall, the showers are used all different times of the day/night and it varies, but because people all have different preferences on when they shower, I’ve yet to go to the showers and have to wait for an empty shower. You’ll just have to experiment and see what works best for you.

They’re least busy when your dormmates are asleep or in class.

My floor has 40+ guys sharing 4 showers, and I’ve never had to wait for an empty shower.

Your results may vary, but the shower is most likely going to have NO ONE in it at 4 AM. Here’s what you can do: wake up at 4 AM (Get a vibrating smart wristband to help wake you up quietly so as to not disturb your potential roommates). Immediately proceed to the shower. Then, come back to your room, and continue sleeping until you’d normally wake up (still have a phone alarm for this time). You’ll have showered privately, and you’ll be able to get ready in the morning without feeling rushed.

I did this while I lived in a traditional dorm many years ago. It worked perfectly. No problems whatsoever, except there was no vibrating wristband in existence at the time! I had a phone alarm that was somewhat quiet but still loud enough to wake me up and not disturb my (heavy-sleeper) roommate.

I think either during the middle of the day or super late at night is the best way to go. My favorite shower (and coincidentally the only properly working one for 20 girls) was usually available the nights I went to go shower at 11pm or midnight. During the middle of the day, people are usually at class so the showers are more likely to be empty.

In all honesty, I’m just asking this because I like to shower at night but I find that many of my friends shower in the morning. I was just wondering when “normal” people shower so I can avoid waiting in line or being in a crowded bathroom but based on everyone’s responses, it seems like most colleges don’t have an overcrowding issue with their bathrooms. After reading all of these responses, this question almost seems… stupid… Lol

I know this sounds weird, but different cultures tend to shower at different times. People from Asian backgrounds like Indians, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, etc, tend to shower right before bed. People from western backgrounds seem to shower in the morning more often than not.

This is a question best suited by observation and trial and error within your own residence hall. People’s habits are different and you will probably get different answers on here than based off your own hall. Remember that everyone has classes at different times an it is likely to be non issue. If you shower at night but many of your friends do in the morning, more freedom to you

In two years with communal showers, I never waited. ~40 women and 4 stalls. I generally showered at night, but even in the mornings it wasn’t an issue.

Thanks, guys  I’m sure waiting in line won’t be an issue then. Problem solved
