Best UC business related majors

A lot of UCs have TAG however, it is not a business oriented system. From what you know about the UC system, what are the best options create a true path to a business career? Basically, can you name the major (besides the obvious and rare bus admin) and what it leads to?

I have another thread somewhat related to this, but this is for more broad, straight answers, the other was a bit specific.

Soms majors in the UC system that can lead to business careers are:

Berkley - economics and poltical economy

LA - business economics and economics

Davis - mangerial economics and economics

SD - international business, management science, economics. Quanititive economics

SB - economics and accounting, economics

Irvine - business economics, economics, quantitive economics

Riverside - this one has a tag for business and the program is actually very good but you can also do business economics and economics

SC - business managment economics, economics

Merced- management and. business economics, economics.

The CSU’s are great for business such as SLO, SDSU, Fullerton, long beach etc

The thing is you don’t need a business degree to get into business. You can do communications and get into marketing. It’s all about your real world skills. The UC schools don’t have business degrees because they are research focused while CSU’s are focused on preparing you for the jobs.

If you want to do accounting all the UC’s can provide you with that. For marketing and management your major doesn’t matter get internships. For information systems either get a CS degree or go to the UC’s that offer it because some of them do like UCI, UCR and as a minor in UC Davis.

Econ majors can lead to finance careers and pretty much any career with the word analyst in it.
The top UC’s with economics can lead you to managment consulting careers. so yeah econ can literally lead to the same career path as biz, but econ is a lot of theory and math while biz administration classes are generally more applicable to real worlds

I hope that helps. Ask away if you have more questions. Also try to research this on different threads it helps a lot.

Ucsb and ucla also have a financial math type major which is excellent for finance careers.

@Mani98 I went to UC Davis’ website and foumd they had a design major. You think pairing the managerial economics with design could lead ro a marketing career or would that be useless/unapplicable in the eyes of employers?

I honestly wouldn’t know since I am a CC student myself, but the information on the wrbsite says that both majors can lead to excellent careers in companies such as apple, gap inc., etc. I wouldn’t think that it would look useless or unapplicable since both majors are really good programs but internships are a must for both. My sister goes to Davis and she told me that internships are necessary to get into the career you want. I would try posting the question on the UCD thread. I think that just a managerial econ or just a deisgn major could be enough for marketing rather than both. Also having both may lead to a a very heavy units load.So yeah just post this on the UCD thread to get response from people who have experience in the programs. Good luck.

What kind of design is it? Does it match with the sort of marketing career you want?

@philbegas It’s general design. From what I can tell it’s about how to make different kinds of physical/visual things achieve optimal asthetics and appeal. Things of that sort
