I am applying to UCSD as a transfer student and the apps ask me to rank which college I wanna be in. I am pretty uninformed about the different colleges within UCSD. What are the differences? which one will be the best for my major (Economics)? Do they matter?

I think the best is to visit the ucsd.edu site yourself, they have all the information there, it's not too hard to find. I didn't knwo anything about the differences also and i just look it up and read about them. Supposely the six schools have different requirements, etc.

I think the colleges basically have nothing to do with majors. They are more residencially-focused than academically-focused. Check it out on their website!!

Get the one with the least requirements you need to fulfill. There are marginal benefits, if any, for transfer students. Sixth college has pretty low requirements, but it varies from what sort of credits you have already.

AdamantineX - you should DEF look at the requirements for the different colleges. they are -very- different. it does not matter what your major is, you can apply to any of the colleges.. they are all good. warren is geared more towards sciences, but that is the only one that leans in any particular direction, i think.

besides GE requirements, the dorms you sleep in are decided by which college you go to. and since you are a transfer, this is not going to matter to you anyway as you are probably going to find housing off campus.

so basically, don't just pick any random order of preference. at least look into the GD's. btw, i'm applying to transfer too, and panicked when i saw that i had to rank them. but no worries, you can also check up on the college confidential - uc san diego threads and search for the different colleges and read what ppl have to say about them.

gl to you :)

Warren. The six colleges (Roosevelt, Muir, Warren, Marshall, Revele, Sixth) are different in their philosophies - by that I pretty much mean gen. ed requirements for major. My sis is an econ major at UCSD, and like most other econ majors, she's at Warren. There is less emphasis on math/sciences. Engineering majors are at Warren too (most think it's kind of strange) but then again, their emphasis is on on specific maths/sciences. As for residencies, it doesn't really matter which one you end up at because inevitably, you'll have classes with students from the other colleges. Writing classes are req. classes, so those have students from all colleges. It's really up to you.

Good luck =-)

Thank you very much. Everything went better than expected.
