Best undergraduate economics program

where does Rice University rank in undergrad ECON?

There are no undergraduate Economics rankings. Rice is an excellent university, and its Economics department, although not counted among the elite, is very good.

Gabriel, i had the same question as well. I hope Rice is good for econ?

Rice is an incredible school and you will likely get an incredible job when you graduate no matter what your major is.

Hello,

I am a high school student looking at undergraduate programs. I am LDS (Mormon) and naturally my peers and I gravitate towards Brigham Young University campuses, as well as University of Utah and Southern Virginia University, because of the LDS control or influence.

I am very interested in pursuing a career in business. I am undecided on whether I’d like to pursue a career in investment banking or private equity or entrepreneurship or management.

It has been a battle trying to figure out whether to look at business undergraduate programs or economics undergraduate programs. It has also been difficult to compare schools.

My father attended Northwestern University, which is right in my backyard; and my mother attended a Seven Sisters College in Massachusetts. Both have Masters, and I’d like to get an MBA and JD.

I would like to get some opinions on Brigham Young University-Provo; as well as other schools. I’m fairly impartial to geography, but I do admire the Southern United States. I also prefer a larger school in an urban-to-suburban setting.

^^ I know BYU has a fantastic accounting program, dunno much outside that.

PS. There is nothing “natural” about a church that makes its followers believe that they must go where they have power, thats what us non-believers like to call “brain-washing”.

ha!..

Many of us choose to attend those universities because of shared values. Also because a large percentage of us get married before graduation, it makes sense to attend a college where there will be an abundance of partners to choose from.

I have seen multiple articles of praise for Brigham Young University-Provo’s (Marriott) undergraduate business program. However there is little mention of its economics program in publications, but I know that many private equity firms have very good things to say about BYU graduates.

Anyone have any opinions on University of Virginia, Vanderbilt University, Stanford University, Harvard University, MIT, or University of Chicago? Economics or Business programs?

shudders

I’m from Salt Lake City. Go to BYU and major in accounting. Great way to start a career.

How would you grade or rank Notre Dame’s econ program (undergrad)? thanks!

I believe he has said many times that there is no distinct “rank” in undergraduate econ, and a good university will generally have a good undergrad econ department. As for student life, you can look in any guidebook like Fiske’s or many different websites, or even here on the CC forums.

edit: *** is with these word filters to other websites? Are we not allowed to acknowledge that other parts of the internet exist?
edit 2: WTH is with a word filter of “W-T-F”?

This is crazy, haha. (I hope there is no filter for “haha”! :))

Oh well. Anyway, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Ranking economics could be difficult because unlike other majors most universities are not known for different schools of thoughts. In Economics each university(those usually Ph.d awarded schools) will be known for a different school of thought. For example University of Chicago is considered a free market school. Going there you may be influenced heavily into thinking free market is best approach to the economy. Saltwater vs. Freshwater schools.

These look like great schools to S1- thoughts and preferences for a business/inventor with management leanings?

Westcon, what post graduation places/career ideas? Stanford, MIT and U of C can not be passed up for ANY econ major.

how about NYU?

how about NYU, Notre Dame, Davidson And Emory???
