best way to higher your critical reading?

kchen, you have given me hope...I've scored 690 around 6 times on my practices (Truly plateaued) and 720 twice...Yay for luck on test day.

people who do well on the cr section have a really good understanding of the questions. i think that the princeton review does a good job of explaining how to approach the section. basically, the answer is ALWAYS in the passage, you never imply or assume anything unless there is secific evidence in the passage. after doing a couple of tests, you will see that pattern. so even though one answer sounds great, its not right because the right answer is the one that is in the passage.
good luck!

Update: Unbelievably, I just scored an 800 on a practice exam (2 Wrong, usually 800). My method was to go through The SC's as fast as possible, read the passages thoroughly and fortunately this time, the passages were nice ones. GL guys.

Edit: It was actually 1 wrong; I checked incorrectly. Let's hope I'll get this lucky on test day.

yeah good luck duper

This is what worked for me:

I used to get ok scores (about 700) on critical reading. However, after taking AP Bio and AP US History, my critical reading improved greatly due to my having to read and understand the textbooks. The scores on my critical reading for the two times I took the SAT average 750. So I didn't really have to put extra effort into critical reading :/

I would also recommend reading periodicals if you don't like prep books.

(Personally, I prefer to read the article before answering the questions.)
