hey guys,
i need help in deciding which workbooks to buy for the upcoming october SAT...
math--> low 700 to 800
crit reading--> low 700 to 800
writing-->low 700 to 800

so your aiming for 2400??

well lemme telll you this: a 2400 doesn't come from a "magical" workbook. It comes from being darn smart and practice.

The blue book or the old 10 RS redbook are great practice books.
BArron's 2400 worked well for me.

sry... here are my realistic goals...
math--> i have a low 700 and am aiming for an 800
crit reading--> i have a low 700 and i want a 750
writing--> i have a low 700 and want a 750

from personal experience and those of my friends i came to find that once you are past 720 - the only thing that can bring it up is practice

but thats just my two cents :)

Back when my parents were in high school, 800s on SAT sections were virtually unheard of. It was an incredibly rare and unexpected feat. These days, top students actually expect to get 800s on every section and some are upset when they don't get these scores. I don't know how the expectations got so out of hand, it was probably when expensive classes and prep. books became prevalent. Whatever the case, everyone should realize that it is ridiculous to expect to get all 800s and then actually get mad when you don't achieve this. Good scores will never make up for other lagging parts of an application.

Plus, sahil.patel89, don't let your family pressure you into thinking that a 2400 is the only way you will succeed. And if you really don't want to become a doctor, you don't have to.

You can get rejected by Ivy League schools with 2400. It happened in past and I don't see any doubt about in future. Try to raise your score but don't put all your effort in SAT ------ that is, think more seriously about others, especially GPA.

As for improving scores, only way to do it is by buying yourself "SAT Brain" from Ebay. No seriously, there are many threads like this but you cannot easily improve your score. I debated this with myself but as soon as you admit it, you'll know what to do: practice, practice, practice, and practice until you get tired of me saying practice.

i know i have to practice.. which workbooks should i buy in order to improve my score to a 2250 or so

Conquering the SAT MaTH published by McGraw Hill is the best book for Math and ofcourse the blue book. If you finishe these two math book and know all the problems you will get above 700 also watch all mathproblems videos
