Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters/Packages.

Personalizing the acceptance letter is a really good touch.
I would love to get a letter from a great school saying
" Welcome to XYZ! We especially can’t wait to see how you are going to involve yourself in our *** team as we can see that you were captain at your present schoool!"
That would definately make me feel special!

And also, those M&M’s sound pretty cool too. That would be a nice touch.

Loomis’s accpetnce letter wasn’t particularly exciting though. It was just the usual. We can’t wait to have you so and so. But my interviewer was amazing!

yeahh personalized letters wouldd be really great, unlike the Welcome %%&&, Congratulations. We know you will make great contributions here.yadayada…lol Feel kinda suckish after reading all this cool stuff ppl got for acceptance.

Deerfield’s package was how to put it, not extravagant with items such as bags, book, bracelets etc. but very tasteful, they had a standardized acceptence letter and a hand written note from the DoA but also small greetings on the bottom of the letters but there were no M&M’s and in fact the course selectionfamily data sheet etc. arrived fairly late compared to Lawrenceville and Milton. But the Green Key thing seems really nice, just last week I received a full page, handwritten letter from my GK telling me about him and his interests etc. (of course they were similar to mine) I think that this is a really nice gesture. However from my limited expereince the staff and faculty at Deerfield seem absolutely wonderful and i can’t wait to enroll. However it may have been slightly impractical to send M&M’s across the Atlantic…

They sent everything in the acceptence package. However my personal experience was that Milton’s admissions process was AWESOME, at first they gave you your own personal admissions officer to whom you could direct your questions, then when the acceptence arrived the letter stated exactly why you were accepted, and you were sent a link to videos recorded by current student’s who told you why they loved Milton (a bit clich

Holderness had an acceptance packet that sounds similar to Milton’s–standard letter, FA package, etc. but also a long personal note from the coach/teacher/dean (one person!) who would have the most personal contact with my son. Other nice features included a magnet, bumper sticker and DVD made on March 10 of students talking about why they liked Holderness. All in all, really nicely done.

Other schools have been discussed accurately above. I liked Groton’s waitlist letter enough that I used it in my college report writing class as an example of a well-written letter of rejection :)

Groton’s acceptance letter was very personalized. For the application, I had to write an essay about the 3 words I would use to describe myself, and my letter repeated those, and added more adjectives to describe me I got a letter from my interviewer asking me about my sports, school, dog, etc. There was a poster of Groton and 2 DVD’s- 'The Eighth Grade Experience" and “The Spirit of Groton.” Altogether, it made me feel very special, as they referred to my application and seemed to remember me.

I forgot to mention that Loomis also sent a magnet.
I think that the best thing a school can do is to deeply look into an applicant’s life and personalize their letters.
I like how Groton’s letter asked about your life and all!
Exeter’s rejection letter after beingon the waitlist was really weird. It actually said that if we wanted to apply in the year 2011, that would be fine. I thought, After you crushed my dreams, I think I might pass. :S
I never liked Lawrenceville very much. I had a terrible interview there. DeerfieldSwede, you seem to have gotten quite a number of accpetances!

Exeter’s acceptance letter was semi-personalized haha
but Lawrenceville’s rejection was SO HARSH!! Tears

what did it say? the lville one i mean

MX accpetance letter was not as good as the letter from the head of school explaining why MX is so unique and great place and why you should come (before April 10th). They sent a not a bumper sticker but like a car sticker for a window. also they included one or two lines in the acceptance letter about why you had been chosen and what they hoped you would contribute to the school. it was nice and sweet also on revisit day you got a shirt.

The rejection said that basically u weren’t good enough(from what I’ve heard).
The acceptence was pretty formalized, we’re impressed by your overall qualities etc. not a very good acceptence package.

My rejection letters were very plain.

I got a call from exeter for rejection.

I got a call from NMH explaining the FA situation.

^those two were nice.

Hotchkiss Fed-ex overnighted my acceptance package. I can’t remember what it had in it, but I remember there was a folder that had “Welcome to Hotchkiss” on it and that was the first thing my mom pulled out so we both started screaming. haha Later I got a big poster of a painting of the Hotchkiss campus.

I had no idea we were all still focusing on our results…shouldn’t we move to HSL?

Anyways:
I LOVED Exeter’s acceptance letter - very personalized and kind, and I got handwritten notes from staff. Whenever I emailed them with the most foolish of questions, they responded quickly and kindly. LOVED it.

I really like how Peddie printed a big CONGRATULATIONS on its envelope, so that you don’t have to stress before opening it…plus, I got gifts from Peddie (a bag, a T-shirt).

I have to say that I really disliked St. Paul’s waitlist letter, but I could be wrong…

Hotchkiss’ waitlist was very kind, let me down easily.
A couple small, lesser known schools scattered around the Northeast that I applied to as back-ups did not have very large endowments, so understandably the letters were not very extravagant…

Rad, I have never herd of getting any calls on decisions! How was that?? Who did you speak to?
Hotchkiss is a very nice school. I expect their acceptance letters to be very nice as well.
Yes their waitlist letter was alright!
Wht does HSL mean?
What was wrong with St. Paul’s waitlist letter? I never applied there.

Sometimes schools call to give you your decision if you have a sibling attending. HSL = High School Life

I thought SPS was nice… It said that you would be an “outstanding member of the St. Paul’s community” and talks about how they didn’t have space, but you were qualified to go to SPS.

@green: b/c my sis goes to exeter so they called, and NMH they called b/c they thought it was lame to just send a letter explaining my FA situation. (i got into NMH but w/ no FA)

What!!! Exeter just gave me the personalized acceptance letter. Whenever I email a teacher regarding a problem/question they never respond.

@urban, LooooL. You should call in with your questions! That’s terrible!
I understand the whole sibling thing. Makes sense.
Imagine if you have a sibling who is a day student at one of these schools and the admissions office sends a note home with your older brother saying “Sorry no. We don’t want you”. That would be awful. And quite funny! Hypothetically.

Andover and Deerfield had very boring rejections and waitlists, they felt as if they were written with no emotion
