Better chance applying as a freshman or transfer?

I have a weird situation. I spent what would have been my senior year of high school at a Jr. College. Is it harder to get into universities as a transfer student than as a freshman?

Le bump???

in California, it is MUCH, MUCH easier to get into Berkeley, UCLA and UCSD as a transfer than as a freshman. Probably true of USC as well. Not true of super elite privates that tend to keep 95%+ of their freshmen throughout their four years, and therefore don’t have much room to accomodate transfers.

Given your situation, you should check with individual schools to determine if they consider you a transfer or fr applicant. Colleges vary in their definitions, and many only consider post-HS college classes for transfer applicants.

If your senior year at the Junior College was as a dual enrolled student and you were receiving both high school and college credit, then you would not be considered a transfer student at most schools. If you will not be receiving a high school diploma, just started at a JC at what would have been your senior year, then you would be considered a transfer student. If you situation is the former, not weird at all. If it is the later, a little weird.
