better chances?

as of now, who has a better chance of getting in, someone who has been deferred or someone who has not heard from michigan yet?

i'd like to know this also

i think the deferred ones

what makes you say so hhhsandy?

I can't be sure, but my common sense tells me that if you haven't heard anything from UM by now that its not a good sign. If you're deferred, they have your completed application on file to be reevaluated for admittance (or rejection). If you're an extremely qualified student, you would've been accepted by now and if you're not a good candidate you would've been rejected. If you don't stand out from the average pool of competition, you would've been deferred - so there isn't any reason why no one wouldn't have heard by now.

You really can't say. It's a question of timing more than chances.

Some weeks Michigan just holds applications instead of sending a deferral, because they feel they may be ready to act on those applications fairly soon. Really, reading some of the threads here, I think it's wiser to do that because it's clear that being "deferred" confuses some people and discourages others. That's not their intention.

Other weeks, they feel some students have been too long without hearing anything (or, they aren't sure when they'll be able to make a decision) so they send a deferral letter to certain candidates so they aren't wondering if their application is lost or forgotten.

nah...i think that just like kman1308 said..i think most applicants should hear by now...see...it' s like April 10 already? you have to deposit your money by May 1...if they really want that student to enroll..isnt time consider?
as well..i think most schools dont give acceptances that slowly..cuz if they accept you that means they want you..then that results in what i just said...they need time for you to consider...

They got decisions out as fast as they could all year. They're sorry that some people are going to heave less time to decide. I know that's tough.

nah..i dont think so...

Believe what you want, then. I'm sorry you have so little faith in their good will. Trust me, if you saw things from the inside you'd understand. Think about it, what does Michigan have to gain from dragging its feet? Nothing. It's alienating to students to not hear anything. They only do it because in an uncertain year, they have to, and they work to get as many notices out as possible. They've been admitting since late October. Not just deferring--admitting.

I know it's hard for you to be in the dark all year. Believe me, it's hard for me to keep my mouth shut in here sometimes, too.

so they give decisions till may and june as well?

You'll get a final decision in the mail probably in the next 5-10 days. If you don't hear by then, move on to your other options.

those are for deferrred people///

UMich will not give decisions in May or June. They observe the May 1 deposit deadline like everyone else. Any decisions after May 1 will be in regard to the waitlist.

Let me clarify, if you're deferred then you still have a chance and you'll find out soon enough. But if you haven't heard anything, don't plan on hearing anything. And if you're waitlisted...well, that's just a euphemism for zero-chance-list.

kman1308: right...that's what i thought too

kman, actually, deferred people and haven't-heard-anything people should all be hearing about the same time, now. I mean, U-M has to be done, and let everyone know, soon.

It's rare U-M goes to the waitlist, but as I've been saying over and over and over again, this year has been very uncertain. All bets are off, they could go to the waitlist.
