My dream goal is to work as an analyst for the government. Counter-terrorism, Intelligence, Political… I don’t really care which, I just really want one of those analyst positions.
So, I know that I want Political Science but as a 2nd degree would History, Sociology, or Geography be more viable. They interest me about the same, so if one makes me more viable as a candidate I certainly want to pursue it.
The 2nd major will not matter much among those choices, as they are seen as relatively similar to Political Science. Someone with a BA in Poli Science won’t be necessarily seen as inferior to someone with a BA in Poli Science and History in the job market.
So if you really do want to double major and it is between those three, I would just go with what ever you think you can get the best GPA in.
If you want to make yourself a more viable candidate, then naturally you should probably make your 2nd major something quite different from Poli Science so you “bring more” to the table.
Frankly, if you want to be an “analyst” (which is a pretty nebulous term) for the government - or anyone - I would suggest that you second major be math, statistics, or computer science. Most analysis jobs these days require skills in those areas. @janesmith also had good recommendations for languages you should consider taking.
Quantitative subjects and hard languages are your friend. Don’t worry about getting an extra label on your diploma - double majors almost never matter. Just take as much quantitative and hard-language coursework as you can muster.
You’d be better off with a little bit of stats, a little bit of CS, a little bit of hard econ, plus a good dose of Chinese or Arabic, than you would be with any specific double major.
