Better major for a job on wall street-economics or finance?

I am interested in working on wall street and I was wondering what major would be more useful and helpful-economics or finance? I am interested in schools such as Columbia, Stern, AU, Colgate, WUSTL, etc...

From what I've seen it seems to really depend on your school. I mean, if you get into columbia, you can do almost anything you want and you'll have good opps (if you combine it with business-related stuff). I mean, econ is of course a good major, but if you go to a great school like Columbia, I'd wager that mathematics, comp sci, engineering, even some humanities with some economics/finance classes (to improve communication skills) would work as well. If you go to a school with a business program, however, it's generally advisable to start in the business schools at least, because at some schools, econ majors are the people who couldn't get into the business schools, and are looked down upon. For example, at UT, econ majors don't have nearly the opps that McCombs students have because most are people who can't cut it for the business school.

In general though, go to the best school you can, and if it has a business school, go for that.
