So I am starting to apply to colleges and I have a dilemna. I took the SAT and got a 2070- didn't do as well as I wanted to. Then I took the ACT and got a 35. I'm wondering if I should still send both scores to colleges? or just my ACT. Also, should I take the SAT again just to boost my application?
I am applying to UF, Duke, UNC at Chapel Hill, Northwestern, American...
Thank you in advance!

I’d say take the SAT again that way you won’t regret not taking it. However, a 2070 is a strong score, especially if you’re strong in the reading and math sections; the writing section doesn’t matter so much.

A 35 on the ACT is more than a strong score, but I feel like some schools still feel more comfortable with the SAT. However, no one can deny that you’re definitely a smart kid.

So I would still send both scores, as you want to show that you did strongly on both and that you’re not hiding a bad score on an SAT which they might suspect if you only send the ACT. However, take the SAT again and focus on what you did the worst on on your previous test. You might also want to take the subject tests as a good score on those is always good to see.

Also, if you have a great GPA, class rank, and EC’s, I wouldn’t worry so much. Write a kick-butt essay and show you’re more than that score. And with those scores, I can say that at American you’d most likely get in.

Personally, there’s no way I’d send my SAT score if I was you. I’d re-take the SAT to see if I could get it to the level of the ACT, but as is… no. I see some merit in what the above poster is saying, but there’s a massive disconnect between a 2070 and a 35 that raises some potentially harmful questions.
