BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

It is now March 31st. We are still waiting for an answer from one school, Purchase. Is there anyone else who is still waiting on Purchase? Do you have any information about when everyone should be notified? I can’t believe that we are still waiting…

@loism - I suggest calling or emailing the school. My S did that this week and found out he is waitlisted.

@loism Purchase is notifying at the slowest rate possible for acceptances this year. a couple of weeks ago, my s had missed 2 unknown calls and was finally able to speak with a lady from their BFA program about his acceptance. When we made a call on Monday of this week, we were told that they are just now getting to the 2nd half of the acceptances and it would be up to 2 weeks before they notified. I hear there are a lot of changes going on. I hope that they aren’t negative but the slowness is questionable. Hoping you hear from them soon. I do know that they mailed out rejections. The only calls being made now will be acceptance or rejection
Good luck to you

@Ioism We are still waiting. I think it might even be my daughters first choice so I am very curious about these changes. I do not know why we haven’t heard. It’s just weird!
I figured that our mail is slow and a rejection on its way (?) but given @actingdreams info Who knows. It’s daunting for sure. Grr

I am still waiting on Webster, UNCSA, and CCM. Hopefully they let me know soon

I’m sorry Regarding Purchase. We were told that the only calls being made are Acceptances or Waitlist. Rejections were mailed
@loism @laylamom

@actingdreams No worries. We have nice choices and I appreciate your info! I love Purchase because great training, affordable and close to home and my daughter really took a shine to it but we can deal with what comes. I will be really really happy to have it figured out though. For things to just settle a bit would be so nice.

@laylamom I totally agree. We have great choices. I like Purchase too! Now we’re a bit stuck. NYU through a wrench for sure (never imagining getting in) but, … I’m trying to be low cost! …I’m grateful for the Pace Opportunity and even with the nice calls from the recent graduates of the 1st class, The program is still really new. My kid went into this wanting a conservatory school BFA. Purchase fit the bill for New York if Juilliard did not work out (not drop from waitlist yet! lol)
now we have DePaul. yes it’s here but their conservatory is just as great as Purchase (no out of state tuition for the similar program). I’m just as stuck as I was when waiting for decisions. I’m going to try my best to just enjoy this April until almost the last day to accept/decline. We never know, another wrench may be thrown in by then

Odd @actingdreams! They are on spring break right now - I hope they continue the calls this week!

Yes! I know. My S sent an email to their admissions counselor and had a quick response of “I will be out of the office until April 4th” but she called that evening. I hope they figure things out soon. People are waiting

@actingdreams - I am so surprised that you were surprised your S got into NYU. He got a callback to Juilliard!!!

@CaMom13 - the leaway to take other courses is useful advice. Thanks. I just noticed for one school that the theatre electives need to promote theatre or generalized undergrad education. There might be some wiggle room in that if he gets interested in something else while there.

@MomofJ5 I know but all of this is just a Chance, Crazy Ride! you never ever know what they are looking for. I can now say that Most of these acceptions are Talent, what they are looking for, if you can pay (even heavily endowed institutions) and luck. I said this early on… I believe the faculty discusses what performances that they want to produce for the upcoming class and they build their group around those. If your kid happens to look the part, is talented and perhaps you can pay without a struggle, your chances are greater. If they have some extra funding for that 1 special someone, you may get a break as well.

about 40 kids had auditioned for NYU (dance, mt,) some applied to other schools within NYU. The auditionees are just as talented as my Son and many of your kids. we knew the chances were very slim. (Wonder if Richard Fieldman from Juilliard called and put in a word :)) )

can’t wait to hear about everyone’s decisions

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get off the nyu tisch waitlist? How many people get waitlisted for drama?

@actingmommy88 I’m not by any means an expert with NYU but! I did see someone say that you should check with the NYU admissions blog. For the past several years, they post that another round of waitlist is accepted.

IT appears that it’s usually at the end of April or by May 5th, then another round towards the end of May all the way up until July.

If you have another top choice, unfortunately, your best bet would be to accept the decision by May 1st as if you’re going to attend then if you get an acceptance, you can always withdraw before school starts. Unfortunately, the cost will be the deposit for the college and dorm that you’ve already paid.

@actingmommy88 - we don’t know all that many serious drama applicants since my kid goes to a Catholic prep school but I know at least one person from her theater program who got into Tisch off the waitlist… and then couldn’t go because of no financial aid. I think WL acceptances likely won’t get much merit aid and NYU has the reputation of not meeting full need. This is all hearsay but I’d take a good long look at the financial side before counting on it - but it you can swing the cost, keep the faith! I do think they go to the WL and I think a lot of their non-acceptances are due to the hair-raising cost of attendance.

This audition season has been a struggle! I have auditioned for 11 schools (BFA, conservatory style) and got no after no after no. Finally, a yes from Tisch! All you need is one! I auditioned at LA Unifieds and did a bunch of walk-ins, but mostly the schools did not interest me and I decided that unless I got into one my original 11 (all of which I would love to go to and are amazing, top-tier programs) that I would take a gap year, grow, work, and reaudition. Then an NYU acceptance! One of the lower on my list but still considered one of the best acting training in the US. Then today, I received a packet in the mail. University of Hartford! I did a walk-in for them, and they seemed very good when I was at the information session but they do not have as large name recognition and I have still done no research on them! I am turning to all of you for your knowledge! I glanced at their website but it is kind of confusing and I figured you all know more than the website says anyway! So if you could give me the rundown for the AT that would be super helpful! Some of the main questions I have is acceptance rate (especially for AT), how well revered the theatre program is, shows they do a year, how conservatory style it is, CLASS SIZE, and more! How proud should I be basically - I prefer a small class size (as most do) and NYU splits you up so you are in a group of about 20, so would my AT class be 20 or 100? Any input and help is appreciated!

Also I received a $9000 scholarship - I read here that they do not give merit or financial aid, how much is their tuition? Is it in the 20k range or 60k? Is the scholarship I received low, average, or high?

I’m relieved that I got into any and am excited for next year! Hartt was a surprise and I think this place is the best first stop for information! Thanks again

Agree with @CaMom13 . I think a lot of kids come off wait lists because quite a few accepted students have to decline offers due to finances. On the Syracuse thread I’m amazed at how many kids who were accepted (not just Theatre kids) are declining their offers because of not receiving merit aid. My D applied to some schools gambling on hopes of getting merit/talent aid and in the end after acceptances simply can’t swing a couple of them. We’re filing appeals, but not really hopeful of getting enough to make it affordable.

@Ashley102399 , since most schools notify by April 1 and some people have heard from those schools for both acting and some tech, I don’t think it would be over-the-top to make a call to their theatre admission departments and inquire as to when you can expect to hear. (I am assuming you haven’t heard anything yet from them and are not just waiting to get off the waitlist.) Since at this point you have only a month to decide, that’s not unreasonable and it may put your mind at ease. Some admission departments are not exactly known to be great organizers/communicators and may have dropped the ball somewhere along the line. It has been known to happen. :-/

@type1mom If my D did not apply nor need financial aid does she have a better chance of getting off the waitlist?
