@MomofJ5 Stonestreet, which is the Tisch studio that is dedicated to training actors for the screen, is an advanced studio which is only available after two years at one of the primary studios.
@rutgersmom321 that certainly is a catch 22. Can you ask Rutgers if they would extend the commit date until May 5th (so that you donāt have to pay the deposits for school/ dorm)? It was an option that my S was going to request with them however things have certainly changed in our household. Iām more frustrated now than I was when waiting for results. I wish that heād just Accept one already
@artskids It would be so fun to have our girls together! Isnāt that the CC dream! ha ha. My D didnāt want to leave BU either. And getting to meet Yo-El was like meeting a famous person. We have been watching his videos for - ever. I really liked everything that I saw - my husband has reservations about their show choices each season. They are all so different and not at all mainstream. He likes to keep things āold-schoolā. He kept saying - āWhereās the required Brigadoon?ā :))
As for CMU - ugh. I donāt even know what Priority Waitlist even means. If they have priority WL why would anyone choose a regular WL? Or is PWL only offered to some? How big can this WL actually be? Oh, so many questions.
Happy to Announce that my D will attend UNCSA Class of 2022 BFA Acting! I will do a longer post in Final Decisions BFA Acting. But I just wanted to share the happy news with all you wonderful people. My D is over the moon happy. We attended Accepted Students weekend and it truly exceeded all expectations in all things she was looking for. Things that mattered: the curriculum and instructions are so strong, each instructor is tops in their craft and KNOWS HOW to teach with passion. Next the incoming class was full of warm, talented people who talked animatedly about being an artist. Overall, it has her perfection combination of Acting plus some MT, plus real strength in Film and TV acting. It is less expensive than some schools on her list, even with the scholarships elsewhere. The new Dean, Scott Zigler, from Harvard and Atlantic Theater Company is brilliant and will only strengthen the program. I encouraged my D to take her time, but truly, I knew. It was her place. A true conservatory, in the style of Juilliard or RADA/LAMDA. I feel grateful beyond measure that they saw in her, what she saw in them. I really have no doubt that this is her place. Sure we got some rejections that hurt, some we didnāt understand (misleading signals), but thatās just this process. She bought the tee-shirt and the mug and is planning her dorm room!
I send each and every one of you a huge THANK YOU, I am not going away, I just know many are still figuring out their path, making decisions, working the FA package. Thank you for supporting each other; I am here as a sounding board for anyone!
@actingdreams Definitely going to look into that tomorrow. Yes! Driving me crazy with the waiting. But I get it, itās a huge decision. Just wish it were easier. @ginaf1102 I think PW was only offered to some? I could be wrong though.
Congratulations @FourStars - to you and your daughter! So wonderful to finally reach such a very happy decision!
Congratulations @FourStars I think the faculty at UNSCA are fantastic! Iām sure she will go far! so exciting!
That is such a wonderful place. Congratulations @FourStars !! Your daughter must be over the Moon! Also @artskids
and @ginaf1102 It sounds like you are closeā¦ another equally amazing program and an awesome school BU!
Looking forward to the final posts. Iāve been reading them for so long, I canāt believe where we are.
ā¦annnnnnnd Congratulations to those like me and my girl who still are trying to figure it out! Whew, what a long year. We are preserving- all of us in our love and devotion to our kids. As are they!!
@alwaysamom - is there a first year studio that does some film? Hmm, I wonder then what theyāll do with him. They are pretty late for studio assignments this year.
Congratulations, @FourStars ! UNCSA is so amazing! Fantastic choice!
Congrats @FourStars!!! UNCSA is an amazing program. Your D must be wonderfully talented! I know you are breathing a sigh of relief that this crazy roller coaster ride is over!!
@FourStars - I didnāt get a PM, but Congratulations!!! I donāt know why- but I guessed that would be your Dās decision. That program is special and the area is beautiful.
@FourStars My D who is a Tisch/Atlantic grad would agree with your comments about Scott. Heās a gem.
Congrats @FourStars! Welcome to the family. My daughter is a 1st year at UNCSA and as she terms it, so happy she, ājumps out of her bed each day to get startedā. The school has exceeded our expectations and as great as the school is Scott and Quin will take it to the very top if they arenāt there already. By the way one second year Carnegie Mellon MT girl I heard who was accepted committed and will start with your daughter in the fall. Outside of Julliard and thatās debatable I canāt think of a better place for a kid to pursue their dreams in Acting, MT, Film and TV. in my opinion your daughter was just handed the Golden Ticket. Canāt wait to meet your family in August!
Go Fighting Pickles! Congrats to your D @FourStars
Congratulations @FourStars ! Amazing opportunity and surely a joyful journey awaits!!
@MomofJ5 I donāt believe that any of the studios have film classes in primary studio (first two years). I imagine your son has looked at the curriculum at all the Tisch studios, which is listed on the website. After completing primary studio, students are able to switch to some of the other studios. Each has different requirements for this. There are many opportunities to be involved with student films at Tisch, as it has one of the best film schools in the country. It is a benefit that can help a student have an excellent reel available upon graduation.
I highly recommend studying the current curriculum as listed, as courses can change from time to time. This is true for any school. This is the prime factor you are paying for so you want to be sure of what your student is going to get!
I should also mention the availability of the Open Arts curriculum. These are courses at Tisch that are open to any NYU student. Iām not sure if Tisch students are able to take courses through Open Arts in a department other than their own. This was not allowed back when my d was at Tisch but it may have changed. Something to explore.
@FourStars Congratulations and Best of Luck!
@MomofJ5 Although Iāve lived in the Chicago area for 20+ years, Iām a new englander that came to Chicago via LA. (All career moves) The culture change east cost to LA is different for everyone, for me going from Boston to LA was like traveling to a different planet. Northern CA would have been a better fit. I know the weather is nice, etc, and its a great place to visit. I donāt want to offend anyone in LA, or who loves LA, but pay attention to that cultural fit. To anyone traveling far geographically, just pay attention to your gut. Itās so easy to override the gut instinct with pros/cons lists, and other logical thinking.
@DoinResearch - I lived in LA for a summer (during law school). I know exactly what you mean. Nothing was bad, just different. In the end, I couldnāt take the job offer I got because it would take me too far from my family and I didnāt want to lose or deminish that connection. Itās too bad because the weather is so much nicer. I donāt know what S will do. Need to see the two other schools. I will be a nervous wreck by the time may 1 comes. I literally have been working the pros and cons in my dreams. Ugh!
