Congratulations @FourStars !
@FourStars Congratulations! UNCSA held my favorite āget to know usā meeting. I think all the parents in the room wanted to go back to college!
@ginaf1102 it would be amazing for the girls to be together! D is on PWL now for just MT. She really wants an intense acting program but with MT. Tough to find her sweet spot. BU has the Music Theatre concentration (which is great). I worry itās not enough to keep dance/voice sharp but Iām sure she can supplement if necessary!
@MomofJ5 Location is a big piece of what we are sorting out right now. I feel like I am eating, sleeping, and breathing this process. We are in the SF bay area. Looking at schools around the country this past week. My S is terrified to leave CA despite having great options outside of this bubble! The last thing I want is for him to have a rough adjustment to an area and end up leaving because of the geographical fit. Just thought I would share. This is just like a never ending rideā¦
@MomofJ5 at least you get to sleep! I never thought Iād be taking sleep-aids until now. My Drās office says that so many parents are coming in because of college stress. This is literally a Movement
I saw a post where someone couldnāt decide between NYU Tisch or DePaul a few years ago. @glassharmonica had said it best
āI have another take on this. Two of my kids are graduating in a few weeks and just went through the exit loan counseling for their Stafford loans. If you think you could be happy at the less expensive school, go for it.ā
@frontrowmama would love to trade kids. My S would go to Europe if he could and not think twice about it (ugh) I love that your S wants to stick around but Iām sure that he will be soaring soon
Congrats @FourStars!!! So happy for you and your D!!
Funny about the LA thing, I live there and I cannot stand it!! Love the weather most of the time though it would be nice to have seasons. Other than that the traffic and hordes of people drive me nuts! And I am not keen on the culture. I would have loved for my S to have gotten into USC though. He grew up going to football games every year.
When we visited BU for the first time last week it snowed and my S loved it. Boston is very charming and reminds me of some European towns. Though I am scared and sad for him to go so far away. It is definitely a culture shock and I am nervous about him going there though I know he will be just fine.
@actingdreams He just likes the CA weather and LAā¦! LOL! We had a teeny-tiny, wee bit of snow at one school and he was likeā¦mom, what is this? It is Aprilā¦
@frontrowmama Biggest Laugh. You may be in trouble with the East Coast
@frontrowmama - Yes, it is snowing today. Itās something you just have to get used to if you want to work on Broadway, right?
@FourStars Congrats to you and your D! UNCSA is one of those magical, wonderful places to study acting.
@FourStars - Congrats to your D - UNCSA sounds fantastic! And so happy for you ā a beautiful place to visit!
B-)
@HopeinMT - Boston is a great college town + so much more! My D went to BU (non-theatre) and my S got in for BFA. Itās one of our fav places to visit. If your S ends up thereā¦you just might also! Best of luck on the decisions.
@MomofJ5 - film was part of the Adler curriculum in year 2
One of my sonās classmates at his PA high school also received a full scholarship from BU for theatre/acting. Sheās very talented and of course sheās accepted.
@FourStars ā Iām so happy for you and your daughter! Itās been a treat to follow along on your journey.
@toowonderful Itās in third year now at Adler according to the website listing. One course for film and tv.
Congratulations to you and your D @FourStars! Canāt wait until my D makes her decision!!!
I think kiddo is paralyzed with fear of making the wrong decision. I keep saying you make the best choice you can based on what you know. Can always transfer as a BA. Can change majors. Can take a gap year. Repeat.
@actingdreams thank you! im hopping aswell! Thanks for all the support! <3
@katew529 @Noreplays2018 I guess it is possible to NOT be awarded subsidized loans if your EFC is too high. I had not considered that and Iām sorry for the miscommunication. I also did not think that an award from the university would lessen the amount you are allowed to borrow from Federal loans because that money is a loan, not an āawardā. But in certain scenarioās it could.
It is possible that the amount of Federal Loans you are eligible for could be reduced if your āFinancial Needā is not great enough. Eligibility for Federal Loans is determined by āFinancial Needā which is calculated as the difference between your EFC and the Cost of Attendance (COA) at a specific college. If your EFC is $19,000 and your college bill is $40,000 - your base Financial Need is $21,000. Then the college subtracts any scholarships you received from them or other sources. So your final Financial Need could be reduced to less than the $5500 offered through Federal Loans.
The frustrating part is that the EFC is ridiculous! It seems to me to be an unrealistic number based on some formula that assumes we all have tens of thousands of dollars stuffed under our mattresses. In our case, it is usually twice what we can actually afford!
Anyway, @Noreplays2018 I am sorry that Elon has not been helpful to you in this area. I wish your D all the best wherever she lands!
@2lights My daughter is also a 1st year Drama student, I agree that Scott has impressive plans for an already stellar program. @FourStars -so happy!!
