My D was passed from Barbara to Don. She did three monologues with adjustments. She was asked to sing as well. She asked what other schools she had applied to and then sent her to Don. She did her three monologues for him as well. He said they were running behind so they needed to keep it kind of short, but he did ask her a few questions and asked if she had any questions.
@Prospero18 Thanks for the feedback. Itās interesting that they are having them sing. Is this something new?
I think they often ask kids to sing if they see musical theatre on their resume. My D said she knew at least two other kids in her group were passed as well. She thought everyone was being passed, but I told her one girl came out very quickly and told her parents she only saw Don. I still think thereās no sense in trying to understand this process. CMU has said over and over again that the passing of students is no guarantee. Itās impossible to know what theyāre looking for with each student, and maybe one kid simply amazes Barbara or Don, and thereās no need to even get a second opinion. Iāve heard numerous times that these professionals can tell in less than a minute whether or not theyād seriously consider someone for their program.
@Prospero18 ^^^well said. We want to see it as a sign - but it may or may not mean a thing.
@actingdreams and @laylamom -CMU has at least two audition rooms, even at unifieds. So one can be passed around - even if not on campus.
That said - we also know kids passed around A LOT and not admitted. Try not to read too much into it.
I will agree that then passing is NO guarantee- itās the not passing that seems to indicate the end of the line
@Prospero18 Thanks for sharing. That sounds extremely positive for your D. Itās very exciting. I hope thereās a wonderful match in her future!
My son got passed to the second room as an acting major applicant four years ago. (He didnāt get in but we took it as a positive.)
My D wasnāt passed, so they definitely werenāt passing everyone. I agree that itās a promising sign! Fingers crossed for your D, @Prospero18!
FYI Ithaca rejection letters were received yesterday so if your S/D auditioned in NY for Unifieds and didnāt receive one they are probably still being considered.
Otterbein sent a message āstill being consideredā that is the only type of message Iām aware of.
Minnesota sent 3 types: no, still being considered and you are invited to callback.
BAL to everyone as we continue on the journey!
@emf1959 I appreciate you sharing information, and if that was for your child, even more so. Please, is this for Acting, and not MT? Even though this board is Acting, I know folks report on both. Thanks again.
@emf1959 and @vpvpbp, my D applied to Ithaca for MT and said sheād like to be considered for Acting. She received a single rejection letter that said they could not offer her a spot in the Theater Arts program so we assume that covers both. She also got the āstill under considerationā email from Otterbeinās MT program.
Acting
Will there be any walk-in opportunities at Chicago unifieds?
Acting opportunities. Not MT.
@myboy2000 Walk-in opportunities in general for acting or for a particular school? D1 took 3 or 4 walk-ins 2 for Acting 2 years ago and could have done more. The auditions tend to be shorter than MT (unless, like Pace, there is a movement call). Get on the floor early. Happy hunting!
Whatās schools was she able to walk in?
Texas State, LIU Post, The New School and one other - which, for the life of me, I cannot recall the school.
Anyone from Rutgers I can talk to?
hi @myboy2000 we just received an email (not sure how they found us ;)) Cornish College of the Arts has openings Tuesday at 2pm and wed 9am and 2pm. If you would like the link to schedule, I can inbox you. I donāt know a lot about Cornish other than my S schools counselor mentioned a LOT of talent $$ available to Drama Majors www.cornish.edu
