BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@ginaf1102 did you enjoy your Fordham audition? I was basking in your Juilliard Audition and forgot to ask :slight_smile:

Great! Thank you!

@actingdreams that would be great! Thank you

@actingdreams Hi! Her Fordham audition went pretty well - I think, who knows?? They had a great info session at first (someone shared their experience a few days ago - I think @actorparent1) - our experience was very similar. I found it interesting how the director of the program was really “poo-pooing” the BFA route. My D did her monologues and then was asked to move to the other room. She did them again - with no direction. They asked what other programs she was auditioning for. She told them. She was nervous to tell them she had a Juilliard callback. We never really discussed the “what other schools” question. Can anyone shed light on why they ask that? Do you just give a sampling of where you applied? Rutgers asked it too. All is good in our house - riding the Juilliard/Annette Benning wave! Ha Ha. I also have to say that I am having a hard time at work - I’d much rather be traveling with my D and eating out! :slight_smile:

wow!I understand the Juilliard high! I’m riding along with your D :slight_smile:
 My son auditions tomorrow. About the “what other schools” He gave them a few that he’s been accepted into Pace, Scad, Columbia) then he said that he applied to UNCSA, Purchase, NYU, Depaul (because it’s a few minutes away) I’m shocked he was comparing BFA to BA. Since we’re no longer traveling, I’m anxious to get through the Unifieds and stress until decision time LOL

@ginaf1102 - about the Fordham speaker commenting on the BFA route. Reminds me of our visit last spring to Emerson. A student speaker actually said something about how the actors would probably not find work and would wish they had changed their majors! :open_mouth: Whaaa? Kinda funny.

@actingdreams Break all the legs to your son today!! I hope he can overcome the nerves and just be himself; he deserves to be in the room, do what he has trained to do and have fun with the auditors. This is what I told my D. Ahhhahahhah! What a day. All the best to you momma on this crazy day. I will be thinking about you and your boy.

@actingdreams Ditto, BAL to your son today! As for the BFA BA discussion. Some schools are indeed quite heavy handed about this. UCLA spent their entire presentation delineating BFA type versus BA type of program AND student! So, I will say in response to the what schools, sometimes they are trying to determine if you have a mix, or all BA, all BFA. One suggestion is to name the schools that are mostly similar to the one you are talking to. Or just be yourself and answer LOL!

hi @FourStars and @ginaf1102 Thank You so much! I’ve decided to let him stay home from school today just in case something magical happens and he gets to stay for the master class (and won’t be tired)
His school hours are from 8am-5pm and sometimes 9 pm for rehearsals.

I can not believe colleges are trying to convince you why BFA or BA is better. We know our kids. This is their journey. It’s what fits them, not what they feel our children need.
The sales pitch is a bit of a turnoff. They are supposed to tell us why their program is the best. I think we get caught up in our children’s auditions and forget that the schools are also auditioning for us. How will they be able to collect our $$ if they don’t? :slight_smile: I will let you know how the audition goes. :slight_smile: Thanks again xx

Break legs, @actingdreams!

@actingdreams - Good move on letting him stay home. BAL to your son!!! Thinking positive!!!

Hi everyone!! My S. Got a Juilliard callback!

there were about 60 people today
 they split into 2 groups. so that everyone who needed to leave for another audition, they posted 2 callbacks. the first 15 or so from each group went and they had a quick callback so that they could get to their other auditions. Only 1 was called back. Of course, everyone was nervous at this time. My son was nervous to go after he saw what had happened and he was the first out of his group at 4:30 pm to go. (things had turned cold and quiet after this)

He said the voice teacher for the warm-up was a nice black lady ( I could hear her in the waiting room with a strong powerful voice. I know she has to be a singer too! really relaxed him. He was nervous because 1 group had Fun, Smiling auditors who were a bit more chill. He didn’t get them. He got what he said was a very Stern looking woman who didn’t crack a smile and the Combat Teacher at Juilliard
 Kathy (the redhead) had told everyone that they would only be performing 2 monologues
 My S did 3.Oddly. Fordham worked with his classical, this time they worked with his contemporary and he had to stand up although it’s meant for him to sit down with it.

He had to sing a song. He’s not a singer! He forgot some of the words LOL but the Stern Woman asked him if he had another Shakespeare. He didn’t want to do it but he knew it and it helped him remember the additional 5 that he needed for unifeds. It’s been done so many times. but he said they were whispering to each other. Asked him about Chicago and his School and ran through his resume a few times and said nothing but thank you. I had to leave and just got home and he said He was the only one out of the 4-5: 30 pm Auditions
 so there were 2 today and 1 from earlier this morning. They are the only 3 doing the masterclass tonight and are supposed to wrap up at 10 pm. I wish I could’ve stayed but had to get home. Even the roads were clear during rush hour and it’s unusual

Yayayayay!! @actingdreams congratulations to your son! It’s such an amazing experience. It’s going to be so fun listening to his debrief when he gets home. Awesome!!

@ginaf1102 I was listening to their warmup, if their daily classes are anything like their warm-up experience, my wish would to be there too:) It was also nice to see the girl who’s on most of their advertisement was there helping with auditions today. They were all very nice and very calm. on a side note, while in NYC, our server told us to look for the Redhead. She will help to call you down. We forgot about it but when she was checking us in, she said “I was told you would be here today” Can’t believe the server remembered us and mentioned us to her but she frequents that restaurant but I don’t believe she was an auditor today either

@actingdreams

@actingdreams - What I meant: Great news!

@actingdreams I think the famous Juilliard redhead is Katherine Hood. She’s the nicest lady and the managing director of the acting program. My D said she was awesome. In the parents meeting all the students were talking about her as the second mom they all go to. We already sent her a thank you note. Wink wink.

@actingdreams Wow! Congrats to your S on that callback. Good luck to him in the next round! Just another thing for you to add to the list of things to obsess over, right?

Congrats @actingdreams that is amazing! This is the year for CC kids
is that 2 or 3 that have been called back?I’m not sure I have ever read about another on these boards making it to callbacks! So, yay! Truly wonderful experience and a huge confidence boost! Way to start out the next round of auditions.

@momof2lefties yes! Stress. He was the only one out of the HS students and the only one in the class tonight. Hope he wasn’t intimidated as they had to have seen something that they liked
