After one of the longest, most frustrating weeks of no phones calls, portal updates, or snail mail…and sadly wondering if there will even be another acceptance for my S, I randomly checked his CalArts portal and he has been accepted! Hang in there to all who are still waiting. I woke up this morning feeling sick over the whole process and am now feeling like a new mom:)
@blessedgirl3 IC MT Mom here with senior show case this week in NYC and spring break starting today noone is there to answer the question. I have found that many students wait to let go of there offers after student acceptance week mid april. Hope that helps!
@latinaMTmom My d got in Drake for BFA acting. I’m also trying to get more info, I think that there are only 25 in the class and that includes acting and MT. I think that they take many of the same classes. Hopefully, someone will answer!
congrats @frontrowmama! That’s a BIG one.
@vpvpbp and @theatrelifemomma - My S also got an acceptance call from Texas State Acting. Maybe all three will be together!
Have you seen Shrek? You know the song Fiona sings in the the tower about waiting and waiting and waiting…and even more waiting? That is exactly how I feel. Anyone else with me?
@frontrowmama congratulations!! CalArts has an amazing program. 3 students from my S school has already committed and 5 from last year are attending now. There is nothing wrong with obtaining a great education while soaking up the California sun
Congratulations @frontrowmama !
Did he recieve his call today?
@STHmom did he recieve his call today?
@vpvpbp @STHmom did your sons get other others from schools? Also @STHmom did he get the call today? CONGRATS TO ALL! This makes me so happy!
@STHmom, I’m conflicted about the waiting. On the one hand, my stress and fear are at an all-time high and I just want to KNOW…but then I was reading the MT board and people have 8 rejections in a row, and I think “DO I want to know?” My daughter calls it “Schrodinger’s college acceptance” - until we hear, it’s not a yes OR a no! It’s just so scary.
Then I obsess over whether not hearing anything yet is good or bad for each school. Like, people have said the Pace acceptance calls went out, so not hearing from Pace yet is likely bad. But on the other hand, someone posted a few days ago that they got a rejection from Purchase in the mail, and no one’s heard of any acceptances from them so far…so for Purchase, maybe it’s good that we haven’t heard yet?
For Montclair, my daughter’s portal still says “Audition not received,” so I emailed the school, and found out that the theater department has sent all the audition results to the admissions department, “but it takes up to two weeks for admissions to process them all and update the portal.” So frustrating to know that they HAVE the result but we can’t find out!
And then I was on Hartt’s website, and on the FAQ, I read “Undergraduate results will go out the first week of April.” And I’m like “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” I wish SO much my D could have auditoned for Hartt EA in December and gotten the answer in January! Unfortunately the audition conflicted with her high school musical, so she couldn’t. But what I would give to have had that answer early and avoid these sleepless nights (IF it was a “yes”, of course!)
Anyway, sorry to ramble, I’m just dying of stress over here!
@actorparent1 I feel ya’ on all of this. Co-sign!
Also, I believe (from a reliable source) that the Pace Acting BFA calls have not gone out yet. Many MT have but not acting. So there’s that…
Next year we will be so wise and have all new challenges and this strange hellish time will be (like others have said) like childbirth. Softened by hindsight. Right? I think?
Thanks, @laylamom ! My only comfort in all of this is coming here and venting and commiserating with people like you who truly GET it!
@actorparent1 we’ve said the same thing - unchecked mail & portals = Schrodinger’s cat! Not sleeping, and when I do fall asleep I wake up and can’t go back to sleep…completely stressed. D is a ball of nerves. Fingers crossed for a good week for everyone. Really hating that we have to “spring forward” tonight! So glad all of you are here!!!
@ActingGuy101 - TXST call and DePaul email - both on Friday.
@actorparent1 - I hear you. Sometimes I think no news is at least not bad news. My S had a call back audition for Carnegie Mellon at Chicago unifieds. I heard that they are typically the last to notify - as late as mid April!!
@laylamom – Yes. Next year - a lot of wisdom. My S is an only child. So a lot of good this wisdom will do me.
@STHmom - if CMU follows previous year’s patterns it will not be that late. My D’s year (2014) calls went out around March 22nd
I’m so grateful my D2 is the ONLY child interested in pursuing performing arts. I don’t ever want to go thru this again, assuming I’ll survive the next 2 months to see a decision made by May 1st. :))
