BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@actingdreams Yes, some early action, and a rolling in the mix makes a huge difference. It’s hard when researching schools and creating the list to understand exactly how they admit, but for any lurkers out there, it’s very wise to pick a EA or rolling for mental health benefits. I received that advice early on, and now I really appreciate the wisdom. We have 1 school pending, and we’d have to fly and visit should Kid1 get accepted and FA looks good, and I can barely handle 1 unknown travel schedule.

Wow, @actingdreams - Rutgers, DePaul and Pace are fabulous options! Too bad about Juilliard, but he is doing so amazingly well without it!

I just want to reiterate what @DoinResearch so nicely said for all the parents of juniors and sophomores out there. Having a smart, Early Action school can truly help with your mental health. It may actually relax your child when they are “in the room”. Having one mid-December “yes” can really help you with the struggles of January - March. Believe us, March. is. a. struggle!

@actingdreams Congratulations on Rutgers!! That is an INCREDIBLE opportunity!! And, DePaul as well!! Pace too!!
Your talented S has many exciting choices!!

@actorparent1 absolutely! He is one that doesnt let it get him down. I know that this journey can be emotional for many (stressing more for me) but he doesnt lose any energy. He always says that everyone just needs 1 good program that fits. He has a few and still waiting on 3 more. He also got a full ride to our local University here in Chicago. He’s good! Thanks for the support

@frontrowmama thank you yes! Options are grear. Our kids only need 1 but its nice to have choices.

@actingdreams when did you receive your son’s financial package from DePaul? My son got his acceptance Friday, but we haven’t received anything yet about money.

Hi @oaktree99 his email said that his scholarship award letter will be mailed this week or next week (can’t recall but will ask him this evening) and his financial aid package will be updated in his portal and will be mailed soon after

Hi @Oaktree99 and @actingdreams - we logged in to DePaul connect last night. The Cost of Attendance and FA details show $00.00. I emailed today. They said it will all come through next week - mailed packet, FA, details about admitted student event (April 13-14).

LOL, wouldn’t it be great if the cost of attendance was $00.00?

Ohh @Atreuh HAHA $00.00 Sounds A’MAZING! lol I’d force my kid to go  … I’m so excited that our boys got into DePaul. they have a 6% acceptance rate. I hope that My Son considers. Sure he has those other options but it’s RIGHT HERE

@actingdreams - LOL, that’s the COA of my dreams! And no plane trips at peak travel times!

@collegeadmiss My S went to TPAP last summer. It was an incredible experience! That is where first got to know Dave. He also worked with Neil, a professor at Texas State (and is a big reason I think he got in at TXST). He opted for Moonifieds over the HSPVA auditions. I heard those were all done in one room like a cattle call and are not considered real or final auditions. A few colleges at Moonifieds considered them to be live prescreens, but most schools treated them as actual auditions. Separate rooms, the whole thing. So, we thought it was a much better “practice” for Unifieds. Draw back - you have to pay $430 to Mary Anna in order to participate in Moonifeds. But, at least there are parent sessions, Coffee with College Rep sessions, student sessions, and a party for the students.

@collegeadmiss - Do not know the other coach you mentioned. — I think BUSTI is a good choice. Our good friend is on staff at BU and arranged for us to meet with Michaela Davis summer before last. My S loves BU and auditioned there. (But, I know it is not an academic fit for him. My S auditions far better than he tests!)

@actingdreams - Did you hear from Pace? Are they making acceptance calls?

Hi @STHmom My S. Received 2 emails. I wish I could access but one was from the Director confirming that he wants him in the program if he doesn’t get into Juilliard (haha) and the second email I believe was last week when he said that he should receive a package in the mail soon. Those are the only ones I was able to see. I will ask my S but he’s not home from school yet

@bfa2018 USD has a beautiful campus but is super super small. 4 years ago their department was light on courses and didn’t seem to have a lot of depth. But that was 4 years ago. Do you have the ability to visit? It might be a nice safety. I know they have some affiliation with the Globe Theatre in San Diego but can’t remember what. Sorry this lady is old LOL

Gotta love those Juilliard Waitlist… The good news is that it appears that at least 1 HS student got in and it was Annette Bening and Warren Beatys daughter I think I called that when @ginaf1102 mentioned seeing her at the very beginning of auditions

Wow! A Juilliard Waitlist!! I thought CMU Waitlist was tough. Ugh. I think your S can put that on his resume… 3/2018 - Juilliard Waitlist - NY, NY. Lol. He should be very proud.
I would have put money on Ella Beatty getting in. Juilliard would have been insane not to take her. My D said she was talented, not sure what your S thought.
This process sure is a rollercoaster! A few more weeks and we can all breath again.

@actingdreams, so close!!! How frustrating. But, hey, maybe our kids will wind up @DePaul together (for $00.00–ha!)—who knows? Congrats to him on that WL though. That’s such a huge accomplishment and what an experience.
