BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@ginaf1102 all of the kids there were Uber talented. She was no more than anyone else (per my S new friends in her group) but he walked in smiling. He will not do a waitlist anywhere and he’s moved on already. To the point of asking when was Suny coming out… no word from Fordham and he did apply to NYU. If he is denied from those, he has some acceptances and he’s incredibly grateful. There are several paths to their destinations :relaxed:

@actingdreams congratulations to your son on being waitlisted for Juilliard!!! So awesome. Elle Beatty was auditioning the same day as my daughter. Glad to know she is talented! I guess that makes sense. :stuck_out_tongue:

@momof2lefties That would be wonderful!! They may very well end up with the other DePaul CC crew and hang out at the beach when it’s warm

@breakingbarriers2018 thanks… yes talent and a LOT of extra stuff can go a long way in this business ;

@actingdreams -congratulations to your S! Why does he say “no waitlist” for Julliard? Instead of rejecting it, he should send in a LOCI and then forget about it (which sounds like would be easy for him because he’s ok forgetting anyway) Probably won’t happen anyway - but you’ll at least know.

My D also got waitlisted at Juilliard. Any idea how many kids they put on waitlist? We know of two HS students that got in, Ella Beatty and another boy. Also, according to my D she was extremely talented and intelligent. One could argue that all of the people who were called back are fantastic actors but a choice had to be made. I seriously doubt she got in over others just because she has famous parents. I don’t feel comfortable diminishing her talent in that way.

@momocarly What program is your S in at K-State?

Congratulations, @sylvansol on your D Juilliard waitlist. She must be super talented!! How is she doing? These kids are so much more resilient than their parents.

@MomofJ5 thanks. He doesn’t want to wait to get off of a list when a school really wants him in the beginning. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being waitlisted. You are very close but for him, he feels like if he’s finally off it’s like “the one that you really wanted didn’t want you so now you’d like to welcome me?”

lol. I know… it’s bad, he’s a boy. I’m sure his ideology will change over time but I have to give him space to find what path fits him  he has brushed this off and after befriending the rest of the auditioning crew, they all are feeling the same way. Not one of them seem to be extremely sad about the results. He knows the nature of this business.

Every one of these great programs have Alumni but they also have many more who graduated with those Alumni who aren’t getting much work. It doesn’t matter where you go as long as you have a good foundation and you’re at a school with great connections.

Sure, we as parents want to put the proud sticker on the back of our car. It’s a nice bragging effect but something occurred to me when I finally heard about it. A tv show was filmed at my home for over 2+ weeks. 2 of the leads graduated from Juilliard a few years ago. They aren’t working right now. It’s not about the school, it’s about timing, experience, foundation and Drive. There are great programs EVERYWHERE.
I have been watching a TV Show on HBO Here and Now… one of the leads went to Southern Methodist University in Texas. I’m not aware of all of these schools and their programs but I’m sure a lot of other people haven’t heard of it either but this girl has been a season member of Greys Anatomy and is now a Lead on a new show.

I know that I’m rambling but I hope you get what I’m trying to say LOL I just will be happy when all of our kids have found their home for the next 4 years so that we can talk about Dorms and Knickknacks LOL

@sylvansol congratulations for you too! I’m sure she’s very talented. They all were very talented, this is why they made it to the final callback  They had to make decisions and the kids we’ve heard from seem perfectly fine with it.
so far it looks like 4 were waitlisted  I do know that they encourage you to audition next year and most have gotten in the following year

She was sad when she found out others were getting calls and assumed it was a definite no but when she found out she was waitlisted she was actually happy lol! I guess it made her feel like they thought she had what it takes to be a Juilliard student. I don’t think she’s banking of actually getting a spot but I think it made the disappointment less intense. I’m just glad she’s not sad any more. For me this program wasn’t an end-all-be-all so if she’s good I’m good!

I’m sorry Sylvansol. She got further than 1000’s who have auditioned. She should feel Proud but I understand and I totally get it. It’s not an end all-be-all  it’s great! Can’t wait to hear about what program she chooses. Maybe they will eventually be interviewed once they are established and will be able to tell their stories of “I had made it to the callback but”

hum interesting perspective, I don’t know many people that would “dismiss” WL from CMU and Juilliard!

@actingdreams - Your S has the right idea. I was thinking about that car sticker for you! Lol
@sylvansol congratulations on the WL. That’s a great achievement.

I heard that B.U. , Syracuse and Northwestern are supposed to post /e mail results this weekend. Holding my breath. Each day this week feels like a million hours!

@teatromama there are quite a few. There is always a risk not accepting a good program while hoping to get off of a waitlist. That’s anywhere and it’s a huge gamble. My S has gone with if he gets into a good program straight out, he will take it. Waist list are not for everyone. All of those kids who are waitlisted at CMU and Juilliard are Talented  I’m sure they all have other options. Those are not the only 2 amazing programs. Yes they are amazing but not the only ones. One of the Juilliard Callback’s was just accepted to Harvard. These kids have other options

Hope We see many CC’s at Syracuse and B.U. (of course Northwestern) but I have a few friends anxiously awaiting for the portal to open for Syracuse @emf1959.

@actingdreams - to be clear, when you try for a WL spot you accept your best alternative program. Then IF you come off the WL, you either accept the spot (they can’t force you even if you said you thought you’d take the spot) or you reject the spot. There is no downside to trying for the WL spot.

@actingdreams - wait posted too fast. The only downside (if you accept the WL spot that becomes available) is you would lose your deposit at the school that you previously committed to. But again you aren’t forced to accept the WL spot.

Hi @diamondntheruff - no worries - it’s just CC! I’m new-ish, but have caught on to a few things. CC posts can’t be deleted. But, you can copy the content of your post in the Acting Acceptances thread, open another thread in Theatre/Drama Majors (such as this thread: “BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!”), and paste your copy in the REPLY box. That was a very thoughtful exchange (in the Acceptances thread) and sharing it here will be good for everyone. I hope this helps! Other more experienced CC folks can probably provide more advice.
