@ginaf1102 thank you! RIP… @proudcalidad I think EVERYONE including myself needed to read this and continue to go back to your post over and over and over again. It does not matter where you go thank you for this
Bravo, @proudcalidad! =D>
So glad you are here, @proudcalidad.
@diamondntheruff I think my S & I toured that afternoon with her and another girl from Colorado. They were the two without parents and hung together? I think they were staying that night to see the show on campus. My S kind of tried to talk me out of making this trip, but I said “stick with the plan” (feeling a tad superstitious). He loved IWU, was glad that he auditioned and saw the school.
I will say again, I feel very lucky having a boy in this process. And my S didn’t focus on applying to very top, competitive programs - that seems to have worked…so far. He’s waiting to hear from a number of schools. He was redirected at most of his pre-screens, as well as one offer (at this point). Was declined by Rider so fast (it made my head spin) now his application on Acceptd is stuck as “incomplete”, and continues to sit at the top of all his Acceptd profile - great reminder, kind of like having a band aid continually ripped off.
I agree 100% about confidence! He left nearly every audition with a positive, even for schools that declined him. His drama teacher mentioned his significant maturity in just the past year and the new HS choreographer noted the professionalism of his audition for their musical. We are super lucky to have very strong cultural arts here. Every year kids go off to top programs in music and performing arts.
Your D sounds wise and mature in evaluating her choices! My S has a few varied programs aka no one right fit…so he will have to research and look carefully at the options. Admittedly a good problem to have.
(Copy & paste from Acceptances thread)
Another thought about the audition process… auditioning itself is a skill. Just like an interview, some people invterview really well and some don’t but perhaps the ones that don’t interview that well are just as capable in the actual job. I know my own D gets pretty nervous and sort of freezes during a high-stakes audition. She has had very few auditions where she feels like she totally nailed it and I don’t think she felt that way about any of her college auditions. That doesn’t change the fact that she can kill it on stage. If the auditors could see her in the last production she did it would be a different, more accurate view of what her potential is… yet we must work within the confines of the system. Just my musings about the process. My heart hurts for all of those kids who want it so badly but aren’t getting offered places in the programs that they are excited about. Big virtual hugs…
Everyone is so stressed out!! I am going to see "Escape from Margaritaville’ tonight " for an escape from this torture LOL
@DryChickenMom We are waiting for BFA acting and BA acting as well. No notification. If you hear anything about when, will you share? Good Luck!
@emf1959 Our high school has an alum in Margaritaville, Mike Millan, he plays Jesus. We saw it opening night-enjoy!!!
My S portal for James Madison was updated with letter dated 3/14 - it was a no for him (he auditioned MT).
@#booknerdmom I had tickets for the first night too but had to give them away as we had to go to DC for an audition.
So exciting that you know someone in it!! I can’t wait to take my mind off this all for a few hours.!
Question: My S sent a prescreen to Northwestern and applied a long while ago. I am sure he won’t get in as his grades are mediocre (his grandma wanted him to apply there even though it was a long shot) Anyway we keep getting these invoices from them stating he has credit and it gets higher each month?? I should just call the school but it is baffling.
Anyone have experience with Point Park WL? In past years? My D letter says decisions on WL for BFA Acting will be made April 18…
@HopeinMT - you might want to call Northwestern to get it figured out.
Also - your earlier post really struck me. Hugs to you and your S.
@proudcalidad made some great points and I hope it helped you as much as it did me.
Best to your S! There are many paths.
We appllied to Northwestern also. Most likely my S won’t get in either due to his B+ gpa. However, I didn’t know they accepted prescreens. Did I miss something?
@latinaMTmom - it’s not called “prescreens”, but rather a musical theatre supplement. (I think everyone uses their prescreen material for it).
What is a B+ on a 4 point scale? Our school doesn’t use pluses or minuses.
@MomofJ5 We didn’t submit any supplements, not sure how I missed that.
B+ is 3.3. That’s his unweighted gpa. His weighted is a 3.7 (A-)
The Northwestern supplement was optional. Don’t worry about it. Your S’s grades sound good!
BW Acting decisions are out (according to my student - who was accepted)
I just posted this on the musical theater board, so please forgive me if you’ve already seen it there. Just posting here so I can see if there are other PROFESSIONAL CASTING DIRECTOR moms or dads following this board who could answer my D’s question (below).
The question is now clarified based on a discussion on the MT board. The question is: is an Actor/Actress more likely to get into an audition room based on the NAME OF THE SCHOOL from which they have their BFA-Acting? The clarification is that this hypothetical actor/actress does not have an agent yet (e.g., because she is just starting out and she didn’t get signed at a Senior Showcase)?
@toowonderful Congratulations! BW is a fine school. A friend of mine went there and made it to Broadway a long time ago!
