USC just announced they will mail decisions on March 22nd. Decisions will also be available on the portal on March 25th.
Syracuse is supposed to come out tomorrow.
Boston University’s portal now says “The ApplicantLink is currently being updated.”
OH boy @Sailordad! We were expecting the BU results on Saturday.
@Atreuh I agree but I would also add that the odds go DOWN even further for women, esp. young women. Still not enough plays and musicals with enough female parts and still not enough female directors, etc. THEN factor for perceived type (even if your kid can play against type better than type – mine looks like an ingenue but is a truly gifted comedic/character actress IMHO), and intangible “fit” factors (ensemble composition; report with faculty; ability to pay; demonstrated interest; grades and scores; trainability; …how the kid was feeling that day, etc.)! I bet most of the parents of daughters on these boards will tell you what a feat it was to find an age appropriate monologue (esp. comedic!) for their 17/18 year old that they could be “real” doing. LOLOLOLOL!
yes @actorparent1, very true. as I was just saying to someone offline, even post-grad programs are weirdly way less stressful than BFA, because if you don’t get in, you just keep doing what you’re doing.
@Rizzo2 The Northeastern program is a co-op program, which we thought might be a good way to go. She got the standard BA versus BFA pitch about versatility and knowledge beyond theatre when we visited last summer. The program has lots of connections and partnerships with professional theatres, so there is a high likelihood of getting a survival job in the industry upon graduation and building a strong network. She was impressed with the quality of the acting that she saw in a play a few weeks ago. Anyone on campus could audition, but most roles went to majors. She has a lot of questions left about culture, academics, performance opportunities, etc. as she decides upon the BFA or BA route at specific schools. Since she’s 100% certain that she wants to be a performer, she’s wrestling hard with this decision. And she waits to hear from nine more schools . . . mostly BA that will notify the last couple days of March.
Good lord, @Noreplays2018 , this is the most real thing I’ve read on this board:
“I bet most of the parents of daughters on these boards will tell you what a feat it was to find an age appropriate monologue (esp. comedic!) for their 17/18 year old that they could be “real” doing. LOLOLOLOL!”
During one of her interviews D was asked how she found her monologue. Seriously? We read a LOT of plays. I feel like I now have a special relationship with Samuel French.
Weirdly enough, it’s become such a habit that I’m still doing it. It’s more fun to read plays when you don’t care whether there’s a usable monologue lurking in there somewhere.
^^^Same @“Jamieand Winthrop”! I especially love new works!
@Naevia Where did you hear about the USC dates? Just curious! Thanks!
USC admissions department posted it on Twitter
I understand the calls from SUNY Purchase have started.
BU just updated its website and the portal is being “updated” as reported. The website reports that the College of Fine Arts, with 3,106 applications, had a 19.6 percent increase over last year. The Average GPA was 3.66; 1360 SAT; 30 ACT. (overall increases in applications rose 6% to 64k and change).
@artskids so they don’t update portals first aye? one parent yesterday stated that her daughter was redirected last night to BA via email.
@noreplays2018 Do you know how many students are accepted into the Acting program at BU?
@diamondparent - midway through this process when my S became unsure about everything (BFA, theatre-all of it), I convinced him to apply to Northeastern as a totally undecided major. (They actually have a program for undecided kids). It’s in the mix for us, but I love hearing that they do in fact have a great theatre program- so if he decides he wants theatre after all- the school remains a good option. (After all applications were in, he started thinking about film production too- and thankfully Northeastern has that too).
Someone told the story about kids changing their minds- it’s so true. I have no idea once we get all our results which way my S will go. (A Crazy 8 Ball might be better at predicting
@emf1959 - I think BU takes 40.
@actingdreams I don’t know about the SUNY portal. My D is in rehearsal so I can’t even get her to check! @STHmom I understand BU may be making less initial offers this year to yield 35ish. They have an exceptionally large freshman class (52 or 54)!
@Noreplays2018 - You are SO right about the situation with girls/women – the roles & the plays!
@diamondparent . You have my sympathy. And i am very, very glad for your daughter that she has a couple of good options. My son has had a number of rejections and it is hard to watch and then you have to help them manage their expectations as they cant help but be hopeful that the next one will be an acceptance…
