I am taking BIBC 102 with Scheffler and BIBC 103 with Soowal in the fall. The problem is, both classes have lectures at 8am so I will have to end up choosing to go to just 1 of them and listening to the podcast for the other one. So, I have a few questions:

Does anyone have experience with either of these professors?
DO both of them podcast (I think Soowal does)?
Do I HAVE to go to the lecture for one of these classes, as in will I miss out on vital information if I don't go to the lectures for one of the classes?
For BIBC 102, will I be able to do well if I attend a different professor's (Hampton) lecture?
What are some tips for doing well in these two classes? :3

I am about to take BIBC102 this fall too (if I can get into that class during my second pass). You can go to ucsd podcast website to check if any of those professors do podcast. (Check Fall 2012) if they did in fall of last year then I think they’ll probably do it again in fall 2013. However, I personally think it’s very risky to enroll in 2 classes with same class time because it’s very difficult to visit ucsd podcast regularly to watch or listen to it (at least for me I get really bored and would rather go to lecture). What if something important happens in the same day? Let’s say the midterm for both classes happen to be on the same Monday? That’s very risky. I mean there’s a low possibility but it’s possible still.
I think it should be equivalent to go to Hampton’s lecture.
If you can attend Hampton’s, why don’t you choose to enroll in Hampton’s class instead?
(maybe you can still be waitlisted and get into this class later)

I don’t think the podcast website shows all of the podcasts from previous quarters as there seems to be very few listed for some of the previous quarters. I don’t think I will have a problem with listening to podcasts instead of going to lecture even though I find it boring too because I’ve been doing that all quarter for Whitesell’s chem 140b lol
I’m pretty sure there won’t be a clash in midterms for the 2 classes either because the bibc102 midterm is shown in the schedule of classes as being an out-of-lecture-time midterm whereas the midterm for bibc103 is not listed so it should take place in lecture. The only problem would be if there were clicker points for both classes or something I think :/

There are podcasts from previous quarter but I think the reason that you don’t see a lot because not every single professor does podcast for his/ her class. Haha seems like you already have the necessary information. If you did it before without any problems why not just do it again. There’s a website I think that has the syllabus from the previous courses. So you can obtain a syllabus from there to see if any one of them requires i-clicker
