My S will be living in a far off dorm, does it make sense to bring a bicycle?
Is there enough parking on campus for bikes?
Winter quarter, can it be stored inside in a dorm?
How long before it gets stolen?
ANYTHING ELSE?

Most (if not all) dorms on campus have indoor bike areas to store bikes when not in use. As far as I know there seems to be generous enough parking on campus for bikes, but the university is a little bit strict about what exactly you can attach your bike to. (Certain handrails and such are off limits because they provide accessability to handicaped people and the like.) I'd say in Chicago it's probably possible to rid a bike all of fall quarter, and for all of spring quarter. Winter quarter will just depend on the cold/snow level of the winter. As for theft, theft is always a possibility in hyde park whether dealing with cars or bikes. Just get a sturdy lock (not the kind that can be opened with a bic pen) and make sure to lock it up all the time and it should be okay.

I guess the only other thing that I have to say is that nearly every single dorm is well connected via the university bus system. Having a bike/car is really only useful for the times when the buses arn't running (early morning/late late evening) or if you just don't like waiting. So, if you can easily bring it with you I think that you should, but if it would be a hassle it can be lived without.
