Recommended or not? I noticed there aren't any designated bike lanes, but a bike could still be useful. Thoughts? Thanks.

the campus is a mile long and many students were on their bikes when I visited
if I go to Northwestern, I doubt I will get a bike

thing about bikes is that the snow/rain might destroy it. if you're going to have a bike, make sure you're somewhere wher you can store it where water's not gonna freeze on it and destroy it. But the campus is very long, if you tend to need to go from south to north or north to south, consider getting a bike. But for just going to class, it's not really that neccesary

How about for going into town? Good point about storage.Someone also told me, offline, that bike seats often get stolen? What's up with that?

Thanks.

again, it depends on how often you go into town. if you end up living on south campus walking isn't too horrible (plus theres the occasional campus shuttle) and then if you live in north campus and don't really need to go to evanston often then it's not a horrible problem. and it's true, bike seats do get stolen, but that's like a general thing, i think that happens anywhere. mostly just luck of the draw, or random drunkards. meh

my friend has a bike. he was telling me he uses it all the time, even in that portion of january where it was ice death he was using it. and the bike racks all had a bunch of bikes, so they use 'em.

he kept his bike in his dorms common room, there were several in there.
