Big BIG problem -need help desperately PLEEEASE!!!!!!

Okay guys, so here's the deal:

I wanted to drop a class on Friday (last day for dropping classes), but I was staying with friends from friday till today and for some reason I could not access CAESAR from their computer. Now I don't know what to do, I NEED to drop this class!! Is there any way the Registrar office can do that for me? Please help me, tell me everything u know about this!!! Thanks!!

Unfortunately, I think after Friday, you will have to take a W to drop a class. That is what my adviser conveyed to me when I was a student there.

what does W mean? Is it sth bad??

It means it goes on your transcript that you dropped the class- it's not just an invisible "no one will ever know I took it!" kind of drop.

There is nothing you can do, I am pretty sure. A W isn't the worst thing in the world, but it never looks good to show that you dropped a class, so it's up to you...

This would be my advice. If you are going to get some kind of B, STICK with the class. I have a friend who did some graduate admissions at a top school for a few years after his undergrad work. He said, that a W is almost identical to like C or D or even F in their book. Even though it doesn't factor into your gpa, if you can pull a B or something like that, stick with your course. However, if you know that you are destined for a C, then you should probably drop it. One C can tremendously bring down your overall GPA.

And not to be harsh, Northwestern gives its students a long time to drop courses. I had friends at semester schools who only had like a week or 2 to drop courses. At NU, they give students the benefit of the doubt, giving them close to 5-6 weeks to drop a course.

wow, 5-6 weeks is a long time to think about dropping a course considering that a quarter lasts about 10 weeks
