big ec mistake?

okay tell me if this looks bad to colleges and if i've committed a huge mistake.

i'm really into cheerleading, and i cheer for a really competitive cheer team. the big problem? practices are held all summer...which keeps me from attending any programs or internships across the country or travel abroad because i have to haul myself back to practice three times a week at night.

is this bad? i'd like to work in international relations or something someday...this keeps me restricted in my local area (though california does offer plenty of local opportunities for me to choose from), and i continue to be involved in other activities during my school year... i really love cheerleading but i also want colleges to see that i'm serious about my future and ambitions (i'm not going to become a professional cheerleader or anything...but it's something i truly love).

no...its good. they like passion. summer programs arent even close to a necessity.

Just because everybody else is doing something doesn't mean you have to do it too. Follow your passions.

DO what you like, not what colleges want

This isn't bad at all -- in fact, I'd hazard that it's very good for you. As long as you find a way to explain what you said -- and I'm sure you'd do so in an essay or something similar -- you can really show your passion. I totally agree with the others: summer internships/etc., while nice, are not a necessity. It's better to have a passion, especially one you plan on pursuing in college.
