Big Ten expansion moves ahead

I think he is talking about Oklahoma State, no Ohio State.

^^ Nah.

“all tattooed by OSU and a probable few more before the end of the season.”

In all fairness, I would sincerely hope that he not mock solely on ‘tattoo-gate’ of TOSU, but also ‘flood-gate’ of Hurricanes, and perhaps USC. Then again, maybe xiggie’s alma mater is flawless thus prompted him to pick on TOSU for no better reason besides envious of B1G!! ;-)

LOL! The world does not revolve around THE OSU.

Let me spell it out for you. TAMU played OSU this Saturday. The tattoo is the Big XII bon voyage and good riddance gift for the exodus to the SEC. The few more will be more losses by TAMU within the Big XII.

Too funny.

^^ I am glad that you are amused!! :)

As a buckeye fan, the word ‘tattoo’ sets-off my internal alarm… Hence, my apologize to xiggi!!

“The world does not revolve around THE OSU.”

I sure hope so…

Schmaltz,

Ok. But you were there eon ago (even though you may feel like it’s yesterday; time flies):

I am not convinced you can speak for what people/high schoolers in the midwest know and what not at the present time…

By the way, looks like ACC is taking Syracuse and Pitts. That fits what I said earlier. ACC is just a very opportunistic conference that lacks identity and would grab any school, as long as it’s expected to bring enough revenue. The fact that BC fits in says nothing about BC; anybody can fit in that melting pot.

http://thegazette.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/trophy_vert.jpg</a></p>

What a way to honor the legendary coach - A.A.Stagg of U. Chicago along with Penn State’s Joe Paterno!!

Despite some CC Naysayers, Maroons are widely accepted as an academic member of B1G and even participated (voting) in the recent conference expansion via CIC-CIOs affiliation. Furthermore, one of the most recognized college football forums also has U Chicago and CIC permanently displayed alongside the banners of B1G on top. Hence, Go Maroons!! lol

As of the latest, both B1G & SEC have 13 members now!! :)

Hopefully, Chicago will one day decide to don the old Maroon once again. I think the University could benefit from reviving its once proud athletic tradition.

As laughable an argument as ever! Let us know when the conference starts sending a few fat checks to Chicago for its share of revenues.

Btw, what’s the UAA?

I would not laugh so hard xiggi, Chicago is a very viable option for the Big 10. It has a rich athletic history with the conference and still conducts much academic work with many of its members. There are financial and reputational benefits to joining a major athletic conference. That is not to say it is going to happen, but most Chicago alums I have spoken to (only a half dozen so it is obviously not telling) about this recently seem to really favor upgrading their alma matter’s athletic profile.

I am fairly certain that the UAA is meant to be the AAU (American Association of Universities). 11 of the 12 members of the Big 10 and 12 of the 13 members of the CIC are members, 3 of which were among the 12 original founders of the association.

^^

That would be the wrong supposition, Alexandre. The theme of this thread is athletic conferences. The UAA is one such animal and is quite relevant to Chicago. That is THEIR conference.

By the way, the laughable argument was made by SE7.

This thread is such a joke…

Let me know the day the University of Chicago and New York University join the Big 12

Gosh, the Big Ten homers have such hardons over some glorified procurement program. Perhaps the CIC can buy some leather helmets for the B1G “Legends” division. ;)

^^^^Not me. I am a realist. Chicago is not ever going to rejoin the B10.

For clarification purposes, here is why I mentioned the UAA Conference. It is not to be confused with the august organization that sent Nebraska packing under the gleeful eye of its new conference sisters.

[University of Chicago Athletics History - UAA Championships](http://athletics.uchicago.edu/history/history-uaa-champions.htm)

In the meantime, BIG 10 is BIG 10 and CIC is CIC. And fwiw, UAA is UAA.

pierre, NYU will never join the Big 10 for two major reasons:

It does not fit the culture of the Big 10 so neither side will be interested in the union (the Big 10 would never make the offer and NYU would likely never accept if such an offer were made)

NYU has no athletic tradition whatsover, let alone a history with Big 10 schools

Chicago, on the other hand, is another story altogether. The University of Chicago is very much a Midwestern university with a long history of academic cooperation and athletic competition with Big 10 universities. In fact, the University of Chicago was a founding member of the Big 10 athletic conference all the way back in 1896 and remained a member all the way until 1946. In those 50 years as member of the Big 10, it won close to 80 conference titles, 6 of which were in Football.

Admittedly, there is a slim chance of Chicago ever joining the Big 10 athletic conference, but to count them out entirely would be foolish. Other than Notre Dame and UT-Austin, there isn’t a single university out there more tempting to the Big 10 than the University of Chicago.

^ The B1G needs a team with a scatter band and Chicago would fit that bill.

Alexandre, you offer a compelling and sensible case why Chicago COULD be a member of the Big 10. The issue, if I may repeat it, was to consider Chicago a Big 10 member today.

Xiggi, Chicago is not a member of the Big 10 today, although it is a member of the CIC. Obviously, that is not the same thing, but again, another reason why Chicago is such a natural fit as a member of the Big 10.

Similar to Pitt playing at Steelers’ NFL stadium - Heinz Field, I think if NYU & Chicago administrator would upgrade their football program from Div. III to Div. I and play at venues such as MetLife and Soldier Field, Delany would have gladly add them to B1G. Perhaps hiring coachs like Chris Petersen of Boise State or Gary Patterson of TCU would be the 1st step. After all, Chicago being the 3rd largest city in the country is far from saturated with college football and NY/NJ market has long been coveted by all conferences. Admittedly, it would take a giant step for both Maroons and Violets’ administration to agree upon upgrading their football program back to Div-1 status; therefore, perhaps let’s start with basketball first?! ;-)
