Title says it's all. What's with it? I see occasional NU and Penn State but far and wide the other nine are missing. Is it the size? The location? Quality may be a concern with a school like Iowa but each school definitely has its standout programs.

You’re kidding? The Big 10 get more attention on CC than any other publics except the UCs.

Michigan gets a lion’s share of love on CC. Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue, and Indiana get quite a bit of love too. Iowa is immediately trotted out on any thread that even vaguely mentions writing.

MSU and Ohio State do seem to a bit less popular.

Most people who attend Big 10 schools are in state. They usually know where they want to go early on. If they are concerned about not getting in, they will often apply to other, less competitive state schools. They don’t visit CC because there is no need. They don’t usually agonize about where to apply to school. They have a pretty good idea about their chances. They apply early under rolling admissions and know by Christmas if they are in. CC is pretty irrelevant to many of those applicants.

IB. Of course you are correct. Note that the OP has only been on CC for a month.

I tend to see a lot of talk about Michigan…

I probably see more threads about Big Ten schools than any other schools in engineering-related threads.

Indiana gets mentioned a lot for its beautiful campus and strong business and music schools. Michigan, Northwestern and Wisconsin get the academic nods. Engineering brings in Penn State, Purdue and a few of the others.

I agree with Shennie. Excepting those interested in Northwestern and Michigan, the Big-10 crowd generally doesn’t see any reason to visit CC.

Ouch.

In my defense…I have absolutely no interest in engineering so I never read those. I like shennie’s idea a lot though.

^^^^That wasn’t meant as a slight to you at all firesoul17. :-)

Yeah as everyone pretty much said no one really looks at B10 schools unless it’s for Northwestern and UMichigan. Since we all know that CCers have above average stats compared to others, most people apply to better schools such as NW and UMich. However, there are quite a good number of students who want to be engineers and the B10 has Purdue, Illinois, and Penn State. For Business there is UMich, Penn State, Indiana, and Purdue is slowing growing up.

Michigan is great in engineering as well.

Oh yeah. Definitely UMichigan has a great engineering program. Totally forgot about that… Hate forgetting stuff I know… :(

I see a couple of Big Tens here:

[CC Top Universities - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cc-top-universities/)

^ Those are the schools that everyone in CC goes after including PSU which isn’t on that list. Which is why the OP probably started this topic.

I see Ohio State Honors on chance threads all the time.

Huh? Three Big Ten schools are very popular on CC, so that means the Big Ten is somehow “missing?” That’s like saying that the Ivy League is missing from CC because Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are so popular.

And Wisconsin is tops in dozens of departments (yes, gasp even better than Mich or NW). What is the typical act score for a Mich freshman? Like 28 or 29? Isn’t that within 1 pt of Il and WI?

^^^^And Michigan is tops in dozens more departments than Wisconsin. What is your point?

That’s really sad. OSU honors admittance requirements are clearly posted on their web site.

Big 10 Academic Hierarchy on CC (in no particular order):

Top Tier: Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin

<gap></gap>

Bottom Tier: Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue
