why people here seems not very like UCR! isn't is an UC anyway? Just wonder cause I don't know much about this school.

True it's a UC but not all UC schools are that great. Many people like to think UCR is one of them.

lol, pretty harsh

Davis dont make a mistake by going to R

Thinking about CC, cause I think the probability for you to be admitted to ucla from a CC is higher than Davis.

^^ That's true and you'll more than likely be admitted to Davis as long as you keep up a decent gpa.

I see so many negative comments about UCR. The only reason I would not consider UCR is the location, that's all. But hey check out UCD campus and see if you like it or not. Even more important consider your major and which school will give you the education you desire. They are both UC campuses, so it all comes down to which location you like better. Personally I visited Riverside and it is humid, but at the same time I took a tour of the campus and it didn't look as bad as people said it would be. I think the only reason people hate on UCR is because it has "Riverside" in it.

I myself once considered UCR/UCD as prospective schools to attend after high school.
But... I made a better decision. That decision was to attend a California community college and I'm transferring to Berkeley in the fall. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life.
I have numerous friends who believed community college to be a joke and an embarrassment. Some of those friends go to UCR. Most of them HATE it. They regret not going to a CC. I'm not a student at UCR, but I mean, come on... it's in Riverside. Is that really where you want to spend your college years?
If you're looking to transfer, attending a UC as opposed to a CC is just plain STUPID.
Save your money for grad school.

This is one of the best posts I've ever seen here. I mean that from the "people who hate on CC" angle, not because what it says about UCR as a school specifically.

Great post!

its just a huge commuter school and i couldn't imagine coming here and living on campus...

I go to UCR and it's not bad at all for me. I maintain good grades, classes aren't too hard, and the people at my dorm are really tight (living at A&I dorm). I guess a lot depends on the atmosphere of the people you hang out with cuz I dont mind too much that it's in a not so good location (you have to drive to get to the nicer, shopping parts). Life here is pretty chill and there are still lots of people who got into much better schools coming here to take advantage of the full-ride financial aid they get. It's not a "dumbass" reject school by any means as people here often make it out to be.

Transferring from UCR to another UC is not hard to do either. I'm currently a sophomore and I got accepted to UCI, UCD, and UCSD and I will be transferring to SD for Fall 2008. However, if you really want to try transferring to UCLA or USC, you should probably just go to CC as it will save you a ton of money and it might actually be easier/less confusing since there are a ton of resources to guide you along the way. I know it is even possible to transfer to USC after one year at CC as I know 2-3 people who have done so. Overall I think USC is probably easier to get into. UCLA is just a huge pre-req nazi so you really have to make sure you get all of those done (finding some transferable classes might not be as easy at another UC). I probably got rejected from UCLA because I didn't finish all of their prereqs (1-2 classes missing).

I'd say you should probably go to Davis if you plan on staying there for a great college experience. I've heard good things about Davis and you will grow/ gain a lot of new experiences away from home than commuting to CC or UCR (going home on weekends). If you really want to transfer I would just go to CC and really strive for UCLA since it's actually worth a lot more to transfer to a top-tier UC school. UCSD is good too but its supposed to be a lot easier to get into since they do not provide school housing for transfers.

Anyway, if your parents would prefer to spend more money on a UC, I would recommend Davis. You will probably like your environment and be pretty content with staying. You can always plan on transferring out of UCD in the case that you do not like it there.

UCR is an option for you but personally, I would rather go to a school further away from home than being obligated to go home every week. But I do know people who got in UCSD and chose to go to UCR since its closer to their house so I guess it depends on your personal preference. If you get a ton of financial aid from UCR, you can consider going there too since you will at least get a college experience closer to home if you want that.

Basically, I would suggest you go to Davis for the better college experience since you'd be away from home. Also, don't worry about making friends too much; I'm sure you'll make a ton of new friends at any UC (but you will definitely not be making a new friends at a CC...). Just make sure you live at a tight dorm.

I'd definately suggest Davis or a community college. With Davis, it'll be harder to transfer, but if you do get stuck, you'll be stuck at a very good school. With a CC, it'll be much easier to transfer and you could end up in Davis, Riverside, UCLA, or USC in two years anyways.

So what did you decide? You can't leave us hanging after all that. :)

Thank you guys very much, honestly this is a huge decision for me, and it's grad week for us so there's been a lot of things going through my mind.

as of now...i am actually split exactly down the line 50-50. i have a few more days to decide, but i am turning in a transcript to both UC campuses.

however i would also like to hear some opinions from people who have seen both UCR and UCD...or just more opinions on general, please! :)

roflmao

the people who attend UCR are saying, "hey, riverside isn't that bad... but i'm transfering out to another way sexier and smarter UC right now"

Wait...you still haven't decided? Didn't you have to turn in your SIR by yesterday or did UCD extend their deadline as well?

Sorry, but it sounds like your choice just became easier....

unless you filled out the SIR for Davis already.

look at the plus side, riverside used to be the meth capital of the nation- so its got that going for it...which is nice

lmao that's just not right.

^^aw c'mon kat i even threw some caddyshack quotage in there!

lol yes you did, but you're probably high already and you don't even know it! ;)
