Damn, too late. :[

Don’t bite off more than you can chew. With a heavy junior schedule, AP Chemistry nearly ended me, and although I got an A in the class, it cost me 2 A’s in other classes to achieve it. EC’s will interfere with time and energy as well. It also didn’t help that my teacher was an Italian fascist dictator. =P

Getting alot of C-'s on my tanscript for 9th and 10th grade… Even though I still passed, it doesn’t look very competitive and that’s possibly the reason why many colleges rejected me.

Aristocrat: I feel your Pein, brotha’.

My biggest regret…
not studying and being lazy. I’m a pretty smart, so I relied on only what I learned in class. Sophomore year could have been so much better. If I had studied, my GPA would be much higher. But I learned my lesson for junior year and got a 4.0 uw. :)

For anyone who wants advice, if you are naturally smart, don’t let that be an excuse for slacking off and barely getting that grade. Make it an excuse to work even harder and get that A+.

Also, have fun. a lot. and get your license by senior year. trust me, senior year without driving isnt great.

those that resonalted with me –

not taking math seriously. A SERIOUS mistake

thinking an sub-par performance early in the term can be made up for later in the term

the morals: 1) get math tutoring if you’re not getting an A. From the school. From Friends, from a paid tutor if need be. 2) put maximum effort into the first four weeks of a term, then sit back and evaluate whether the class needs more work, less work, or outside help.

not taking the writing segment of the ACT because he did well on the writing on the SAT…mistake! ACT was much higher and he had to turn both in

some schools would have taken the ACT for SATIIs as well…

I would also advise people that go to schools that offer the ROP program to take as many ROP classes as they can. Because those classes get added to your transcript and can raise your GPA. And also if you take a ROP class related to your major (for example: nursing) colleges will like that because it will show that you are actually interested in pursuing that career.

Also I would like to advise you that " a D-,D, or D+ is NOT a good grade!!" Alot of my friends get happy and celebrate when their grades went of from an “F” to a “D-”. although you might be barely passing the class,if you want to get into a good college the lowest grade you can get is a “C”.

-I could have done so much more freshman year - and soph!
-found college confidential sooner!
-not prepping for the psat
-confront those b*****

I should’ve realized that for engineering (even Chemical which is what I’m thinking of doing) one of the requirements is to have taken physics in high school. For next year I have one elective because of IB. It was going to be Orchestra. Now it’s SOL Physics. I should have dropped orchestra for this year and taken physics so my senior year I could take Orchestra.

hey guys im a junior in high school in illinois. my gpa is 2.61 and i have 23 ACT. i really want to go to depaul in chicago but idk if i live up to the standards. i have played 2 sports all three years and am on my school newspaper. i want to major in something in communications. What are my chances?

Not practicing viola enough - I could’ve been really good instead of just above average.
Not getting involved in research earlier.

So can we net it out for the students and parents (and guidance counselors?) that may read this in the future? I can try to get it started, based the input so far…

1a) Didn’t start caring about grades early enough… took the lazy way
1b) Worked too hard, without enjoying high school enough

2) Didn’t realize the PSAT are important for students with a shot at National Merit (top 1%)

3) Didn’t plan ahead to schedule SATs and SAT IIs early enough. Didnt’ study.

4a) Didn’t do enough EC
4b) Did too many EC, too scatterred

5) Didn’t research colleges (and find CC) early enough

anybody else want to copy my list and keep adding to the summary?

Not trying to get along with the teachers that could really help out…

Automatically not going for a leadership role in everything!

-Not taking any AP classes freshman or sophomore year
-Not taking SAT II’s immediately after the corresponding class (i.e. Chemistry SAT II after I took Chemistry sophomore year, etc.)
-Not trying harder on PSAT
-Not studying for SAT or ACT

Not taking enough ACTs to get a year of college credit and skip a year, as my friend did do.

Also not studying hard enough for the ACTs – senioritis.

Mistakes…Taking AP US History. It’s bringing down my QPA horribly.

Not preparing enough for nmsqt/psat - I only got 213, so 50/50 on NMS Semi-finalist in my state.

Other than that… Not much.

I posted that, above, and I meant APs, of course!

Well, I should have set some higher schools and not meddle myself too much with safety schools. And yea, I should have followed much more of my passion to boost up my ECs but not make an so-called-impressive list of them.
Oh and should have self-study some APs during junior year coz they only offered one(APUSH) :(
