Biggest Mistakes in High School

Lessons Learned from Mistakes (the mistakes are easily guessable from my comments)

There is nothing worth fighting for on school grounds even if you are jumped. Take it away from the campus at least before you fight back. You won’t have to explain yourself to colleges that way.

Homework is a gift in difficult classes, it can help tons when the tests get hard. DO IT!!!

Math is not the proper time to sleep in school if there is one.

Getting those B’s. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Getting B’s

Getting more B’s.

Not getting straight A’s

Not joining enough clubs/EC’s
-I’d say find maybe 3-5 you can get really into and get positions in, and then a couple more that don’t require attendance.

Mainly getting B’s when I could’ve gotten A’s.

Taking clinical rotations instead of taking AP Bio, droppig my rank by ~4% and probably destroying my chances at my dream school

colorado_mom - Thank you for the condensed list…love #7.

Work hard, study hard, do extracurriculars. Check out this site, [■■■■■■■ - Exams, Professor Ratings/Reviews, Study Guides, Grade Data, Flashcards](http://www.■■■■■■■.com), and it’s been very helpful studying for classes and exams. It will give you an idea of the course load and help you study once you actually GET IN to a school. Check it out, it’s 100% free and they’ve got a lot of study files/guides you can check out from thousands of courses.

I was redistricted to another school my sophomore and had a FIT about it. I couldnt adjust, my grades plummeted, and now im dealing with this as it is a stretch getting into the college of my dreams- James Madison University

Seriously, always be focused on getting As and Bs. JUST because it is an AP class, doesnt mean a C is good, cuz its not. Oh man, how much i wish i could redo sophomore year!!! :(

forgetting about the French final on the annual ditch-day freshman year (whoops…)

taking AP.USH HISTORY as a junior wouldhave taken it as a sophmore or freshmen made me 1% from getting a 4.0 effing up my whole junior year GPA
arrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Like everyone else, thinking about college too late. I never really put much effort into college-related stuff during my freshman and sophmore year, because it always seemed so far away. I’d constantly put it off, until I was finally hit with the realization that college was just around the corner (during junior year.) Then I just started cramming all the extracurriculars I could between junior and senior year.

Also, not studying enough for the SATs/ACTs. Hmmmph. My goal was to score at least a 2000/30, but I always came up short (I received 1990 and 29 to be exact.) XD I bought the study guide book, but I barely cracked it open.

My post will consist of what others have already posted but the biggest mistake that I have made during my highschool career is that I was very indecisive about my future goals as well as my college options. This resulted in a very hectic first semester of senior year (the time to fill out applications) and made the application process slightly more difficult than neccesary. Another mistake is that I never put things in perspective. I never pictured myself applying to selective colleges because I found them to be expensive and I often took them out of my college options list. Well, come senior year I fell in love with Rice and applied there. If I am rejected from the college, I can definately say that I wasn’t well-prepared. However, I was accepted to The University of Texas at Austin, so I imagine April won’t be such a cruel month.

the iggest mistake 4 me was takin it easy senior year… i have all IB classes but my senior year, i ended wit a home period and TA’ing another period…might seem pretty cool at first but i didn’t know colleges looked into seniors takin it easy the last year… im hoping it doesn’t ruin my chances for USC :-S

-Fing up in my freshmen and sophomore year.
-Little outgoing socially and couldn’t care about school events like everyone else did.
-Academically underachived on GPA and SAT score (could’ve done better with 100% effort of practice).
-Procrastinating my homework assignments and waking up the next morning and feel like tired and s afterwards.
-Getting blocked on facebook in the first place.
-Afraid to take leadership and traveling/internship position and didn’t realize how important getting into a good college is earlier in the HS years.
-Heard ACT too late in my Junior year after I’ve been prepping with the SAT for years because I would’ve done both to see which one better suits me.
-Getting into parental and guidance trouble with 5 of my friends from middle school who I got close with. Now can’t speak to them until they speak to me in College.
-Made new friends to my life in HS, but could’ve chose more wisely since one of them (a girl) don’t even consider me important anymore. Yet, I had met a guy through these friends last Summer and he ended up rudely ending a friendship with me (ah I don’t care anymore).

 • Dropped Physics Honors in Junior year to take Earth Sci instead just because I thought I wouldn’t be able to handle a challenging Sci course, but have now just realized that I’m not so bad at Mathematics after all.
 • Lost my calculator and gym uniform couple of times, and my umbrellas on raining days (all of these just because I was irresponsible, but now I am starting to care more for myself).

Not doing ANY ECs. I had a couple of clubs that I barely went to, and I had Honor Society, but that was all. I’m actually surprised I haven’t been rejected from any school yet, but that’s mostly thanks to ELC (got into UCD, UCI, and UCSD so far. Expecting a rejection from UCB due to lack of ECs).

Not being social. Also, sticking with my loser friends until the beginning of junior year. I’m much happier with my friends now, and I’ve begun to become more social.

Not taking an art class freshman or junior year, because then I could have taken English during the summer then gov and econ at the same time in my first semester of senior year, so I could have graduated early and worked for a few months. I’m miserable in high school right now.

Getting a 3.94 gpa

and 4.83 UW

Not taking health over the summer to fit in another class to raise GPA

Forgetting that ONE ASSIGNMENT that tipped me over to a B

┐(´ー`)┌ I didn’t take any AP classes until senior year, I never participated in extracurricular activities at school, and I was too lazy to sign up for summer school throughout all four years. Can anyone top my fail?

Focusing too much on college admissions, taking it too seriously and not realising that I had lost my soul
Forgetting that I was still human
Wasting too much money on CollegeBored’s Standardised Scams

I went to boarding school Junior year for sports reasons, my grades went down, so i transferred back to public school, my grades never recovered. Also the sports reasons did not work out(not playing sports in college, although no big deal)

I took Spanish I freshman year and got the worst teacher, i did not listen to the Upper Classmen about switching out, i ended up dropping the class and taking Latin…very bad idea.

I did not pay attention in Algebra I and had no idea what was going on in Algebra II because of not paying attention in Algebra I. Now failing Pre-Calc even though my mother told me not to take it.

I did not join any clubs…the one club i joined sophomore year was gone when i transferred back Senior year.

Not taking a crazy load of AP classes! I only took 2 in my junior year and 2 in my Senior year. COLLEGES LOVE AP CLASSES!!! Take as many as you can!!

Basically, your actions have consequences. When you do something, choosing to watch a movie instead of writing a paper, or doing homework instead of going out with friends- you’re choosing what you think is important.
