Bike to commute

Hey everyone,

So I visited Penn State on Friday. I fell in love with it. It was finally a dream come true. I’m in community college right now and will be applying to PSU fall 2017. My mom won’t me take my car, because she thinks it would be worthless to me. Now here comes the bike. Since PSU is huge I need a bike to go to classes explore the campus, etc. Hybrid or Road Bike? I’m leading towards a road bike since I want to ride 30 miles per day (summer time).

thanks

You won’t “need” a bike on campus – the bus system or your own two feet can get you everywhere you need to go. Plenty of people do have them, though. Invest in a good lock when it comes time.

Is the bike theft really bad over there?

Probably no worse than the average campus, but bike theft is a problem at colleges as a whole.

LOCK YOUR SEAT ONTO THE BIKE. Son’s seat was stolen during the first week of classes. He was told by the University police that bike seat theft is the number one reported theft.

You know you can remove the the saddle, right?

That’s what the thieves do. Son preferred to use a cable rather than having to remove the seat and lug it into classes multiple times a day. Either way.

Bring whatever you like to ride; there are lots of opportunities around–
