Bikes on campus: Useful or Unnecessary?

Yes, as of right now I’m too excited thinking about college and even though it’s months in advance, I have already started creating a list of things needed for college (b/c ideas come at me randomly and then I soon forget). Also, how far is downtown? What means of transportation do students take getting there?

Downtown Amherst is basically across the street from the campus. There are several banks, drug store, Starbuck’s, many restaurants, the book store etc. There is also another “strip” of stores such as Target, Walmart, Dick’s, J.C. Penney’s, Old Navy, etc., that is about 1 1/2 miles up the road that you can take the PVTA bus to for free with your I.D.

You would only need to bike to reach Marsh House, where your upperclassmen friends may live, where poetry readings and singing group performances are often held.

You could also bike to Hampshire Mall or UMass, which is very cool if you’re someone who just enjoys riding.

And, there’s the bike path to the Bird Sanctuary.

But, really, you can walk to town and take a free bus ride to the mall.
