Bikes

To the best of my knowledge, UA has never implemented a system where students could swipe their Action Cards to rent a bike and then drop it off at another bike rack. It was in the planning stages, but I have not heard if UA is moving forward with that type of program. What I do know is that there has been a lot of support for expanding the current Bama Bikes program to provide more bikes and rental locations.

Ah…thanks for the clarification.

I think it would be great if there could be “bike kiosks” around the school where kids could swipe their ACT cards and get a bike…ride it to class…and drop it off at the next kiosk. There could be some kind of annual set up charge (maybe $25 or something).

$5.00 for one month’s rental, really? Would like to see if S will use it before plunking down $$$ for a decent bike.

Bama bikes says $55 per week. The only place I saw $5 was in the daily late fee.

Pretty sure it is $5 for a month. When I contacted them in August, all bikes were rented. I believe they said they had about 30 or 40 bikes. We ended up bringing D’s bike to her when we came for Family Weekend.

How much does it cost?
$5.00 for up to one month. BamaBikes functions just like renting a piece of equipment from the UA Outdoor Recreation Office.

When can I check out a BamaBike?
UA Outdoor Recreation office: 9am-5pm: M-F

The downtown bike store is called VeloCity. It’s by Mellow Mushroom and DePalma’s. Very knowledgeable staff and a great service department as well. My DD rides with their cycling groups as part of her triathlon training and they are great about having her bike in great shape for safe racing (even though we bought it here in Georgia). Let’s see if I can master attaching a link.
