Is it a good idea to bring a bike to Notre Dame?

YES!!! Well…if you live in mod quad (i.e. NE corner of campus) or in a dorm not on north or south quad and all of your classes are far way, then yes. Just take care of them in the winter…they get pretty beat up then.

and bring a lock! I had my bike “stolen” 3 times this year because I didn’t have it locked because I was inside a building for a only a few minutes. ND students don’t really “steal” they just borrow and don’t put it back in the right place. Probably the only problem with crime on the campus–bike theft.

Don’t bring a really nice bike. You can buy a basic one at Wal-Mart, if bringing one with all of your other stuff will be too much of a hassle.
And I second the caveat about the lock.

ya make sure that you bring a lock…there are tons of bikes at ND, but I also think that it is just easier to buy your stuff in South Bend. This is what I plan on doing. Depending on where you live, flying may be much easier and less of a hassle and then you can pick up any big things at one of the local stores…there are plenty.

there are certain dorms that don’t really require a bike, but it is just a good idea…but then again there are other dorms where a bike is almost mandatory like Carrol Hall.

yeah
i visited last weekend and they said the first thing youll do will be to go to wallmart or something and get a bike

Thanks for the advice, guys! I guess I’ll be heading over to Walmart this August.

We bought a $50 bike at Meiers many years ago.
But, what until you see what dorm you are in, before you commit to buying a bike.

Are there any places where you can get second hand bikes or from students who are willing to sell theirs?
