Satisfied recruiters are keys behind Binghamton University's climb up the ladder of elite business schools, administrators said Sunday.

BU's School of Management ranked 40th overall in Business Week's annual ranking of top undergraduate programs. It was 15th among public schools.

Binghamton improved from an overall a ranking of 74 last year and rated higher than many larger and more established programs, including business schools at Syracuse University, Boston University, Mary-land and Purdue, according to the Business Week survey, released late last week.

While receiving a C in teaching quality and a B in facilities and services, BU proved to be a strong favorite among business recruiters, ranking 11th out of all the schools.

Upinder Dhillon, dean of BU's School of Management, cited the success the school has in meeting the needs of employers looking for qualified workers.

"Recruiters really like our students," Dhillon said, noting the school added a placement director last year to draw top recruiters, including Goldman Sachs, to Binghamton.

Binghamton University President Lois B. DeFleur said BU's showing was especially impressive because "it compares very favorably against much more longstanding programs."

Wow... this is great news for Binghamton! That's a huge jump from 74th last year...

I think I may still end up going to either Bentley (30th) or Villanova (13th) though.

I heard about this. That's great.

It's nice for NY students just cuz it's also an education that doesn't cost a lot. Hoepfully the trend continues. Would be nice to see a NY public school regarded highly.

looking to apply to SUNY Binghamton School of Management

GPA:84-85,two APs and Three College Courses
SAT:CR-460 Math-620 W-420,will take SAT again in dec and aiming for at least a 700 in math and a 500 in writing and reading, these are not my goals ,scoring higher than that is even better
Extracurrics:Superb,too long to mention

please tell me how i would fare in applying ,thanks

sorry c2meang91, i don't think you qualify. GPA is at least 10 points below average, and SATS for SOM should range from 1250-1300+.

So SOM is more competitive. Hmm... that was the track I was planning on taking. Are there any current students willing to offer insight? Is there much difference between SOM and A&S in rigor of curriculum/competitiveness? The school website is kind of vague... or maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

SOM is harder to get into. What major did you indicate on your application? If you didn't indicate a major, your application is treated as an application to Harpur and if admitted you would have to transfer into SOM -- something that isn't easy to do. If you indicated a major that is within SOM, it will be treated as an application to SOM.

Ooops---I could've sworn I put business as option 1, but for some reason it's 2. Foreign language/etc. is 1 right now, but I guess I'll just call them.

Haha, okay I went through the formal process of writing a letter restating my intentions to apply to Bing---am now being considered for SOM :). I was a bit stressed for a while but the switch was pretty easy/smooth. Huzzahhh
