DS been waiting since Oct, at this point I doubt a fall admit will happen. If anything it’s going to be Jan admit, BAP or rejection. Just my opinion….

Hi. Just curious if anyone was denied School of Management but offered a spot in Harpur instead. Would you accept Harpur and pick a business-friendly major or go to a lower-ranked business school like Stony Brook College of Business?
Did you get into SOM?
I was an Early Action SOM applicant who was deferred to RD, and now waitlisted. Just before the EA decisions came out, I was given the choice to be reviewed for Harpur but I declined. My goal is to be a direct admit into a business program. Bing’s a great school but I really want a Finance degree. I also got into Stony Brook Business but probably won’t not go their either. Think I’m headed to UConn, Bentley or Clemson.

The same switch to Harpur was offered to my son and he accepted it because they didn’t say declining the Harpur offer might put him in RD pool. Now he is choosing between Stony Brook Business and Harpur (but what major? Actuarial?) and not sure what to do. What are your thoughts on Stony Business? Also, just curious, what was your SAT score and did you share it with SOM?
Stony Brook is a great school. Any degree from there carries weight, business too I’m sure. Location near NYC is a huge plus. Train goes into Manhattan right from the campus. Don’t overlook that opportunity. Check it out.

as a bing student who transferred into som, u can transfer into the business school as long as you have a high gpa and do well in the required courses

what are your stats?
My SAT was not the greatest but thought it was better to include it in my application, 1360 one sitting, 710 Math. Small public high school. Mostly APs & Honors, 2 sport Varsity athlete. 98 weighted GPA.
StonyBrook’s business school recently earned AACSB accreditation, so it doesn’t rank…yet. But, as a leading SUNY with an acceptance rate similar to Bing (around 40%) and a heavy STEM vibe, I’m sure the Stony business program will rise.
As Ari-yara said, you can transfer into SOM at Bing, but you need that high GPA to do it, no guarantees. Maybe you could ask admissions what % of Harpur kids transfer in and what it takes to do that.

Anyone still waiting on Harpur after being deferred? My daughter was accepted at Stony, UB, Hofstra, Syracuse, UConn, went to visit U Albany this weekend…. Bing is the last one she is waiting on.

We are for Harpur but D22 submitted for RD. We’re supposed to visit Stony next week and UAlbany the week after.

Anyone have details about accepted students day? My son is signed up for this coming weekend and wondering how long and what is entailed.

I am signed up as well. The sign-up page said the event is from 9-2. I reached out to admissions to find out about the day to plan travel and this was their response:
“Thank you for reaching out! We are currently working on the itinerary for Open House and you will be informed when it is complete. Congratulations on admission and see you soon!”
Can anyone tell me where the students eat off campus and where downtown they hang out? We didn’t have time to explore off-campus when I visited last.
