WPI vs Drexel (URGENT, chemical engineering)

Hello, my name is Amy and I want to major in chemical engineering. I'm trying to decide between these two schools, I visited both and loved both campuses.

WPI:
~Would major in chemical engineering with a concentration in materials OR major in mechanical engineering if I wanted to change.
~Tuition and fees ~$58k
~Got a $10.5/year for 4 years merit scholarship and have $3400 this year for need base scholarships
~I have family in Worcester, mom knows the area well
~I would want to do the advanced bachelors/masters program to get both in 5 years or less

Drexel:
~Would major in chemical engineering OR materials science OR mechanical engineering
~Tuition and fees ~$68k
~Got many scholarships/awards adding up to $19k as of right now, did send an appeal
~None of this money is necessarily guaranteed, just money I can reapply for if I maintain a GPA, need, etc
~Don't know how many co ops I would do but I don't want to be in school forever getting a bachelors/masters
~I do like Philadelphia but I feel like the school isn't worth the 68k/year

If you guys have any data as to how many graduates get jobs within 6 months or so from these colleges that would be great too.

Thanks guys :)

Drexel has a reputation for skimpy financial aid. Sounds like you’ve already decided on WPI. Lake Jr. like RPI very much and came away from our visit very impressed. The campus vibe was very positive. Very friendly (but of course, everyone will be friendly at these applicant receptions). Lake Jr. ended up elsewhere but probably would have enjoyed WPI. Sounds like you enjoyed it too. You have your answer.

Drexel COA – 67800 for fall 2014 – WPI - 59000

I’d pick WPI. There’s no great difference in academics or job placement between them, and you can find paid internships during the summer with an engineering major.

A third to WPI, a very practical school and a good academic structure with only taking 3 classes at a time in the quarter format, which I personally love the idea of.

I’d pick WPI as well, Drexel is definitely not worth more money than WPI.
